ALICANTE MULTI-PURPOSE BUILDING. Congressman Alfredo Benitez recently turned over the Multi-Purpose Building of Barangay Alicante in E.B. Magalona after a simple blessing and inaugural rites, to EB Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon and Punong Barangay Alan Matapaja. The Blessing was officiated by Fr. Giovanni Garde.*

Representative Stephen Paduano (Abang-lingkod party-list) confirmed yesterday that Rep. Alfredo Benitez (3rd District) is one of the chairs of the four technical working groups studying amendments in the 1987 Constitution.

“His TWG is in charge of the preamble and the transitory provisions,” Paduano said.

After rendering 20 years of sincere and loyal service as Dean of Discipline of VMA Global College, CPO Dionisio L. Milano, a retired Philippine Navy, was honored by a tribute from the management.

Commodore Elizabeth Orola-Salabas, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of VMAGC, led the tribute to the most respected employee of the College. She said, “giving tribute to a great man is a great honor, especially when he is more of a family than a workmate.” She also expressed gratitude to CP Milano for having stayed with VMA for 20 years.*(EBColmo)

A tricycle driver was killed when his vehicle bumped a mango tree to avoid an Isuzu D-Max pick up at 2:30 a.m. Sunday along the national highway in Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan City.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan City PNP chief identified the victim as Val Valencia Flores, 24, married, of Sitio Homesite, Barangay Camansi, Kabankalan City. He sustained head and body injuries and was brought to Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

One was killed while his two backriding companions were injured after they collided with a Chevrolet Aveo at North Road, fronting Gate 7 of Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental around 3:00 a.m. Sunday.

The victim, still unidentified by police, sustained multiple fractures and died on the spot as declared by Dr. Kenneth Coo of One Rescue Team.

A person attending a wake was shot dead by four suspects in Purok Tangkong, Barangay Dos Hermanas, Talisay City, Negros Occ. around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Superintendent Adonis Rosales, Talisay City PNP chief identified the victim as Keven Abellana Bolivar, 35, married, of the said address.

He sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body and was rushed to Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital in Bacolod City, but was declared dead by Dr. Regina Alma G. Quiogue at around 4:48 a.m. also Sunday.

A student was drowned at Mag-aso Falls in Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan City, Negros Occ. around 3:00 p.m. Sunday.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan City PNP police chief identified the victim as Norbe Dumagat Almeda, 22, single, resident of Unica Homes, Barangay 9, Kabankalan City.

The victim’s mother, Feebe Almeda, 62, said, after eating lunch, the victim went with his relatives and friends for a swim. The group were there for a weekend relaxation.

A 46-year old resident of Sitio Mambangon, Barangay Cabacungan, La Castellana town in Negros Occ. was pinned to death by a tree trunk at around 7 a.m. last Sunday, at Caduhada Resort in the said place.

The victim was earlier warned by Teodoro Cabasis, 44, married, not to go to the area where he was cutting the Talisay tree. The victim, Elmer SoiloTembrevilla, Sr., 46, married, did not heed the warning and insisted on passing by the area. He was hit in the head and was rushed to La Castellana Health Unit and declared dead on arrival.

NOLITC AWARD. The Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center staff led by its administrator, Ma. Cristina Orbecido, presented to Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. the Outstanding TECH4ED Center-Emerging Center Category Award won by NOLITC during the 12th Knowledge Exchange Conference held in Manila, last week.
