Dondon Parandas, Officer in Charge of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) welcomes the move of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) to establish a satellite office at the Bacolod City Government Center so that it could immediately respond to any emergency within the surrounding area.
As expected, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in Negros Occidental is dismayed with the P1,000 budget for 2018 as approved by the House of Representatives Tuesday.
“We at CHR fear what will happen to us in 2018. Our concern is on our services, security of tenure and the mandate of the agency to protect human rights,” Romeo Baldevarona, CHR provincial head said yesterday.
Baldevarona said, their agency “is constitutionally-mandated under the 1987 Constitution.”
“We believe politics has intervened in the CHR especially in the release of funds,” he said.

A septuagenarian was found dead in a fishpond located at Ruso Resort, Barangay Tomongtong in EB Magalona town around 7:30 a.m. yesterday, Wednesday.
EB Magalona PNP identified the body as that of Jesus Sisbriño Sabedoria, 78, married, labourer, of Barangay Tomongtong, EB Magalona.
Joel Escaner and Winnefer Bonganseso, fishpond employees of Eduardo Lopingco reported to EB Magalona PNP that they found the victim’s body floating in one of the fishponds in the area.
A person wanted for rape was arrested in Barangay Buluangan in San Carlos City, Negros occidental around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The two sons of a former policeman neutralized their father after they caught him using shabu at their house in Purok Mahidaiton, Barangay Paraiso, Sagay City around 5:40 p.m. Monday and turned him over to police.

A native of Mindanao committed suicide in Sitio Looc, Barangay Poblacion in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Authorities identified the victim as Ronie Latayada Oblimar, 50, married, native of Initao, Misamis Oriental in Mindanao and temporarily residing in Sitio Looc, Barangay Poblacion, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim was in the house of his sister, Judith Oblimar Laroa when he stabbed himself with a 13-inch kitchen knife.
