Last Friday's topic within sugar industry circles was the resignation of Sugar Regulatory Administrator Atty. Anna Rosario Paner. This shouldn't have come as a surprise, because her appointment to the post was only for the period July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017.

No extension to her term was issued and she continued to serve in her post until news broke out of her resignation last Friday. In fact, she addressed the general assembly during the opening of the 64th Philsutech convention at Waterfront Hotel, Cebu City last August 16. The SRA chief's address has traditionally been an integral part of the event.

Mrs. Melina Monecillo of Barangay Lantad in Silay City, mother of an educational assistance beneficiary was not in the program but approached the organizers for a chance to thank Congressman Alfredo Benitez on stage. So Nanay Melina was called to say her brief pasalamat for the opportunity given her daughter , Angel who in 2015 graduated Cum Laude from STI-WNU with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Criminology.

A former member of the Bacolod City Police was arrested in Barangay 6 in Bacolod Saturday by Police Station 2 operatives.

Former Police Officer 2 Rule Villacanas was arrested after he was served with two warrants of arrest for kidnapping and murder issued by Regional Trial Court, Branch 64 in Guihulngan City, and for malversation issued by Regional Trial Court, Branch 42 in Bacolod City.

‘Negros Federal State a Possible Proposition’


A federalism advocate and close ally of President Rodrigo Duterte stressed that the proposition to create a Federal State of Negros is possible, and it depends more on the lobbying of the congressmen from the island.

A provincial government official urges the public to inculcate peace consciousness in their mind as it brings harmonious relationship to the community.

Negros Occidental Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator and Provincial Peace and Order Council Secretariat Head, Dr. Ma. Lina Sanogal made this call during the National Peace Consciousness Month Kick Off Celebration held recently at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center in Bacolod City.

The search for the top young artists in Negros Island netted 220 entries vying for a spot in the 5th Victorias Milling Company’s on-the-spot art contest this September 22, in Bacolod City. This is, by far the biggest number of entries submitted since the contest was launched in 2013.

Divided into three categories, the high school entries topped the list with 101 submissions followed by the elementary category with 80 entries and the tertiary level with 39 entries.

A security guard was found dead hanging in a tree around 12:50 in the afternoon Friday in Barangay Hilamonan in Kabankalan City.

Police Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan PNP police chief, identified the victim as Glen Suspeñe Balidiong, 42, married and a security guard of KTEMPCO Building located at Barangay 5 in Kabankalan.

The victim was found hanging in a Talisay tree with a rope around his neck.

According to the victim’s daughter, Glimmy Balidiong, she saw her father hanging after a couple of minutes that she asked him she would go to the store.

A person pn a motorcycle was shot dead by riding-in-tandem suspects who was following him in front of Star Ice along Flores Avenue in Barangay Piapi in Dumaguete City, at about 2:30 in the afternoon Friday.

Police Chief Inspector Ponce De Leon, Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team leader of the Dumaguete Police Office, identified the victim as Adam Gantalao Corciega, 38, married of C. Vidal Street in Jimalalud, Negros Oriental.

The victim was riding his motorcycle going north direction when followed by the two unidentified suspects who shot him twice.

A member of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) now KAPATIRAN, was ambushed at Crossing Lambo in Barangay Locutan in Kabankalan City by about 15 armed men believed to members of the New People’s Army (NPA), at about 10 o’clock in the morning Saturday.

Senior Inspector Jerald Moya, Deputy Police chief of Kabankalan PNP identified the victim as Jovanie Dizon Banista, 50, married “Alias Ka Amor/Ka Elmer, 6th district commander of RPA-ABB of Sitio Ilan in Barangay Locutan, Kabankalan.

A member of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) assigned in San Carlos City port was arrested after he threatened with a gun a resident at Locsin Street, Barangay 4, in the city at about 3 o’clock in the morning Saturday.

Superintendent Arturo Fullero, OIC-police chief of San Carlos PNP, identified the suspect as Mark Callo Reyes, 33 yrs. old, married of Sta. Clara, Iloilo City.

He was accused of pointing his unlicensed .45 caliber firearm on Marlo Pasilan, 26, single of Hacienda San Antonio in Barangay Guadalupe, San Carlos.
