Hundreds of boxers from Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental are expected to show their boxing skills in the 8th Negros First Governor Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr., Cup Open Boxing Championships 2017 at Sagay City gymnasium on October 15-21.

Boxers from different districts in Negros Occidental that hurdles their district eliminations will advance to the finals in the 8th Governor Alfredo Marañon Cup Boxing Open championship.

The Philippine Azkals ended up the game in draw. Both teams scored 2 points at the end of regulation at the Panaad Park and Stadium. Azkals remains on the top of their group in their ongoing campaign for the AFC Asian Cup 2019 UAE Qualifiers.

The public is being urged by Mayor Evelio Leonardia to cooperate in the implementation of No Segregation, No Collection Policy on garbage, which started September 1, 2017. “This is a gigantic task, and we anticipate this is not going to be easy,” Mayor Leonardia said.

As chairman of the Solid Waste Action Team, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said, the program is in its infancy stage, so the compliance percentage is lower, on account of lack of information dissemination in the barangays. However, he expects success of the program in two to three months.

Members of the September 21 Movement and the Alyansang Mamumugon sa Kawad-on with over 50 farmer-members are set to stage a protest rally before the Martial Law celebration (September 21), at the town of Binalbagan.

According to Felipe Gelle, spokesperson of the group, in a radio interview, they have tried to meet with Mayor Tinto Bascon of Himamaylan to ask his help because the farmers seem to lose livelihood already. Considering that only few landowners hire workers in their farmland because of the slump in sugar prices.

Combined elements of Hinigaran and Isabela PNP arrested a person with pending warrant of arrest for swindling and estafa around 4:45 p.m. Monday at Magallanes Street, Barangay 8, Poblacion in Isabela town, Negros Occ.

Police Chief Inspector Jake Barilla of Hinigaran PNP and Police Chief Inspector Ruben Pajarito of Isabela PNP arrested Dennis Carampatan, 26, single, of Barangay San Agustin, Isabela town.

He has swindling and estafa cases committed in Hinigaran town.

A resident of Phase 3 in Menlo Garden, Barangay Zone 12-A, Talisay City, Negros Occidental was seized with unlicensed firearms in an entrapment operation around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Superintendent Adonis Rosales, Talisay City PNP police chief identified the suspect as Rogelio Villegas De Los Santos, 30, married, resident of the place.

A laborer who refused to lend his motorcycle was stabbed dead around 6:00 p.m. Monday in Purok 2, Barangay Magballo, Kabankalan City.

Police Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan City PNP OIC police chief identified the victim as Louan Guinera Sarmoy, 49, married, of Purok 2, Barangay Magballo, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental. He sustained stab wound on his chest and was brought to Tabugon Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Police identified the suspect as Kevin Amit, 25, single, laborer, of Purok 2, Barangay Magballo, Kabankalan City.

Bacolod City Councilor Ricardo “Cano” Tan is urging the Bacolod City Police Office (NCPO) through City Director, Supt. Jack Wanky, to act, instead of merely exposing to the media the list of alleged top drug lords in the city.

Councilor Tan, who himself had been rumored to be into drugs but which is not proven until now as he was cleared by various anti-drug agencies, was reacting to the expose’ of Wanky through the media.

Wanky said that there are eight big time drug lords in the city, with the addition of the Berya Tolentino group.

Ten suspects were arrested sniffing shabu in a drug bust operation by Police Station 2 in Purok Kagaykay, Barangay 2, Bacolod City around 11:40 p.m. Monday.
