A total of 186 public school teachers who are scholars of the Project FREE Program of the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental graduated with doctoral and masteral degrees at the University of St. La Salle – Bacolod.

The province of Negros Occidental is now led by two officers-in-charge (OICs). Board Member Salvador Escalante as OIC Governor for and in behalf of Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr., who is on trip in Vietnam. While BM Pedro Zayco is OIC vice governor in behalf of VG Eugenio Lacson who is on leave.

Hence, the regular session yesterday of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan was not conducted due to inadequate forum, because out of 14 Board Members, nine are attending the Provincial Board Members League of the Philippines Conference held at Tanglaw, Bohol, starting today, until Sept. 1.

“The only way to solve the problem of our nation is by culture and art, because a nation with great culture is a great nation.”

Thus said Paeng Paderna, trainer of the art/drawing training conducted by Art Association of Bacolod (AAB) at the artworks gallery along Gatuslao Street, Bacolod City. The training is conducted by batch during weekends starting August 26-27.

Paderna said, no less than a Bacoleña member of AAB in the person of Maurine Austria grabbed the grand prize award culture category during the recent international art competition.

A day after he was reported drowned Monday morning, the victim’s body was found around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police Chief Inspector Robert Mansueto, Sagay City police chief said that the victim, identified as Kris Jhon Nietes Remetio, 27, single, of Central Lopez, Barangay Paraiso, Sagay City, Negros Occidental was swimming with his friends in the deep portion of the river when he sank and did not surface again.

Rescue team from Sagay City scourged the area and found the body of the victim more than 24 hours at the same area.

A farmer was shot dead by at least five to six unidentified armed men while pasturing his carabao near their house in Sitio Laos, Barangay Binobohan, Guihulngan City around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police authorities identified the victim as Arcadio Sta. Ana Jurado, 56, married.

The wife, Milagros Jurado personally came to Guihulngan City Police Station and reported the incident around 2:23 p.m. on Tuesday.

She told police authorities that the suspects were wearing bonnets and looked like farmers too.

A person was shot dead, while another was injured when hit by stray bullet in Barangay Purisima, Manapla town, Negros Occ. around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Chief Inspector Edencio Gregorio, Manapla PNP chief identified the victim as Ernesto Gonzales Alyare, of legal age, married, of Hacienda Candelaria, Barangay Purisima.

Gregorio identified the suspect as George Perocho Aghon, 32, married, driver, resident of Zone 5, Old Barrio, Barangay Purisima.

The suspect shot the victim fatally twice in the body.

A 33-year-old man was stabbed dead by the present live-in partner of his former live-in partner past 4:00 a.m. yesterday, August 30, 2017 at Luzuriaga Street, Bacolod City.

Police Senior Inspector Leo Gestopa, Police Station 1 chief identified the victim as Elmer Margallo Navares, 33, of Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City. He sustained stab wounds in the different parts of the body and was rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

A steel hanging bridge will soon connect the sitios in Brgy. Mahalang, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental. A joint undertaking of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the local government of Himamaylan City, the project broke ground the other day. The steel hanging bridge is located at Sitio Suba Su-ay, Mahalang, measures 50 meters long, and costs P1.5 million.

A third year college Fine Arts student and native of Villa Beach, Barangay Zone 3, Cadiz City was apprehended by Bacolod City Police Station 1 operatives for vandalism.

Senior Inspector Leo Gestopa, Police Station 1 chief identified the suspect as Gerard Berlanas Daza, 19, temporarily residing at San Dionisio, Barangay Granada, Bacolod..

He was caught spray painting the wall of a water refilling station in Purok Masinadyahon, Barangay 12, in the city Tuesday night.

Councilor Caesar Distrito lauded the recent operation of the Bacolod City Police Office and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in confiscating several boxes and sacks of fake cigarettes in a factory located at Purok Riverside, Barangay Bata in which 14 minors were also rescued.

Distrito said that City Ordinance No. 09-16-784, series of 2016 or known as the “Anti-fake cigarette ordinance of Bacolod City” prohibits the sale, possession and distribution of non-compliant cigarette products in the City.

The Commission on Appointments (CA) yesterday deferred the appointment of Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Secretary Rafael Mariano.

Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III suspended the proceeding after Senator Gringo Honasan asked for more time to “process and digest” issues raised by the oppositors.

There are 10 oppositors against the appointment of Mariano. However, only six were present in yesterday’s confirmation hearing.

These are the words that best describe a kind-hearted, loving and caring man most especially for the poor La Carloteños - former Mayor of La Carlota City, Juancho G. Aguirre, who passed away at the age of 75, on Sunday, August 27, 2017, 7:55 p.m. at the Doctor’s Hospital. He suffered cardiac arrest secondary to lung cancer.

Bago City-based football fans will witness high-quality games tomorrow when the Negros First–Dynamic Football League quarterfinals kick off at the Manuel Y. Torres Sports Complex in Bago City.

Eight teams from the 3 divisions will battle for the semi-final spots of the tournament.

La Carlota City FC will open the quarterfinal matches at 7AM when they take Northern Negros’ Escalante FC. Meanwhile, at 9AM will be the battle between the north and the south as San Carlos City FC meets Himamaylayn City FC to complete the morning matches.

With two weeks to go before the 2017 NOPSSCEA kicks off on September 15, the BTTHS Thunderbolts is making a strong message after dominating the recently-concluded Milo Little Olympics 2017 Visayas Leg held in Cebu City.

The 2017 Palarong Pambansa campaigner Thunderbolts swept the USJ-Recoletos in 3 straight sets during the finals: 25-19, 25-16 and 25-23 to claim the U16 volleyball championship honors. The team is mentored by Evelyn Aguillon assisted by Ian Macariola and Biboy Calamba.
