J’ Trend Controls routed Baciwa, 101-80 and Antones Lines repeated over Judge Marketing, 75-67 on Monday to dispute the championship of the 1st Bing Uy Soyao Memorial Cup at JGC Gym at Goldenfield Complex.

Final game is set on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. following the game for third place at 2 pm between Judge Marketing and Baciwa.

The father and son-in-law tandem of Melvin Baclay and Jerel Jarobel combined for 37 points as Baclay drilled in 6 three pointers for JTC.

The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with private schools to incorporate the teaching of PhilHealth program among grade 10 students in private schools in the province.

A drug suspect was arrested by Police Station 2 after a brief chase in Bacolod City Monday evening.

Police Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias, Police Station 2 chief identified the suspect as Jeffrey John Alvior, 27, of Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City.

Villarias said they conducted a buy bust operation against the suspect in Barangay 2, but he managed to escape. Police operatives, however cornered him at BS Aquino Drive.

Confiscated from him were one big, one small and one elongated sachets of suspected shabu worth about P26, 000.

A farmer was found dead in Sitio Bucal-bucal, Barangay Najandig, Zamboanguita town in Negros Oriental around 5:00 p.m. Sunday, police belated report disclosed.

Police identified the victim as Julius Palomar Babor, 39, married, from the said address.

The victim left their house early morning Sunday to go to the farm, according to his wife Mariedel Mata Babor. He told her he will be back at lunch time. When the victim failed to come home, she decided to look for him with the help of her two cousins, Ronald and Julius Mercado.

A farmer was killed and two others injured when they were stabbed by unidentified suspects in Purok 2, Barangay Abaca, Cauayan town in Negros Occidental Monday.

Police Chief Inspector Gary Alan Resuma, Cauayan PNP OIC chief identified the victim as Eduardo Layan, Jr., of legal age, also of the place. He sustained stab wounds on his stomach caused by a sharp and long bolo locally known as “talibong”.

A minor girl was killed when she rammed into the tail of a trailer along Bangga Granville in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City Monday.

Police Senior Inspector Ramel Sarona, Police Station OIC chief identified the victim as Liza Mae Anton of Woodside Subdivision, Barangay Alijis, Bacolod city.

She died on the spot due to head and body injuries.

According to investigation, the cargo truck driver was identified as Roel Lipalam, 39, of Barangay Buenavista, Murcia town, Negros Occidental.

A man who underwent rehabilitation for drug addiction stabbed his mother 73 times and ate her flesh Sunday in a remote village in Sibulan town in Negros Oriental.

The police identified the suspect as Roger Manaban, 52, married, who was caught by police in possession of the murder weapon, and with bloodstains on his shorts, t-shirt, and face.

Eyewitnesses said the suspect stabbed his mother Josefina Manaban, 86, a widow, of Purok 5, Brgy. Boloc-boloc, several times, slashed her stomach and face, ate the flesh, and threw body parts outside the house.

Hinigaran town, now with only 10 policemen including its new chief of police, will have more cops soon, said Senior Supt. Rodolfo Castil, Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (NOCPPO) director.

Earlier, Mayor Nadie Arceo questioned the PNP for granting the request of the nine policemen to be transferred, thus leaving behind only 10 to serve the town.

The Mayor said, however that it is the right of policemen to ask for transfer and it is up to the PNP either to grant it or not.

Regional offices of national agencies in the now-dissolved Negros Island Region (NIR or Region 18) have until October 9, 2017, to close down, local government Undersecretary Austere Panadero said yesterday.

Panadero attended the presentation of NIR national government agencies’ Transition Action Plan to facilitate reversion to Regions 6 and 7, at Nature’s Village Resort in Talisay City.

He said, the meeting aims to ensure that the agencies “have smooth transition” back to the old regions.

“I do not expect any problem with the transition,” he added,
