Negros Press Club 40-Under basketball squad and Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas Negros Occidental Chapter Men’s volleyball teams secure respective wins during the 2017 KBP-NPC Fellowship Games 1st Leg held at STI-WNU Gymnasium on Saturday.

NPC defeated KBP by 7 points in 40U basketball, 53-46.

Team captain Nico Delfin and sharp shooter Ruel Bangoy led the scoring cudgels for NPC with 11 pts apiece, while Mark Salanga scored 23 markers for KBP.

Ceres Negros FC is going for a back-to-back win against Meralco in the upcoming game at the Pana-ad Stadium today at 4:00pm. The busmen faces the Philippine Football League (PFL) leader Meralco Manila. Last month Ceres defeated the Manila booters 7-0 at Rizal Memorial Staduim.

A drug pusher and thief was shot dead by two unidentified suspects in Upper Luke Wright along corner Real Street, Barangay Poblacion 2, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The victim was identified as Noel Bangkal Henson, 47, single, “Alyas Pakwel,” of Colon Street, Dumaguete City. The victim sustained two gunshot wounds in the body and one gunshot wound in the head.

A backrider died and the driver injured after their motorcycle fell to a canal while negotiating a curve in the national highway in Hacienda Nalipay, Barangay 5, Isabela town, Negros Occidental around 11:00 p.m. Sunday, police report disclosed.

Chief Inspector Ruben Pajarito, OIC police chief of Isabela PNP identified the victim as Rogelio Palma Borromeo, 70, married, of Barangay Panaquiao, Isabela.

A father was hacked dead by two suspects looking for the victim’s son in Purok Halandumon, Barangay Canlandog, Murcia town, Negros Occidental around 10:00 p.m. Sunday, police belated report disclosed.

Murcia PNP identified the victim as Hernane Medel Suricho, 52, widow, of Purok Halandumon, Barangay Canlandog, Murcia. While the suspects were identified as Raul Costan Suricho, 27, married and Dennis Antonio Calapan, 38, married, residents of Hacienda Bahay, Barangay Sta. Rosa, Murcia.

The No. 1 drug pusher and his brother were arrested in a buy bust operation by the Victorias City PNP at Zone 5, Relocation Site, Barangay 21, Victorias City at 12:00 noon Monday.

Superintendent German Garbosa, Victorias City PNP chief identified the suspects as Celso Silava Titong, 42, married, “Alyas Osoy” and his brother Jessie, 34, single, residents of the place.

Celso’s son Christopher, 22, single, was able to elude arrest.

A small tunnel about 100 meters long was also discovered, which the suspects use as passage when escaping.

During his 365 Days Report, Bacolod City Congressman Greg Gasataya presented priority projects that are currently being done and one of these is the flyover at Magsaysay-Araneta which is expected to be finished by November. The solon says that the flyover project was conceived when he was still Vice Mayor of Bacolod City when a request for a memorandum of agreement between the City and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), as Gasataya was then the Acting Mayor and soon enough the project started during his term as Congressman.

A Malacanang official said that the dissolution of the Negros Island Region will "only be a temporary set-back."

Commissioner Elgin Robert Damasco of the People Power Commission said NIR for it be fully operational is "too expensive for the national government."

The administration of President Rodrigo Duterte is now pushing for for federalism which "will make way for Negros island's dream of becoming one state of region," said Damasco, who was the guest at the Monday launching of Radyo Bandera-Bacolod FM station Monday.

Two robbers were killed when they traded shots with Bacolod City Police Station 6 operatives who responded to St. Therese Avenue in Doña Juliana Subdivision, Barangay Taculing, Bacolod around 5:20 p.m., Monday.

Chief Inspector Jovil Sedel, Station 6 commander, identified the victim as Mark John Bayot Fabila, of legal age, of Purok Everlasting, Barangay 29, Bacolod and also carries an address, Barangay Malingin, Bago City, and his still unidentified male companion.

There is no basis to relieve the chief of police of Hinigaran despite the insistence of Mayor Jose Nadie Arceo, said Chief Supt. Edmund Gonzales, Negros Island regional police director.

Mayor Arceo wanted his town's chief of police, Senior Inspector Lawrence Gerald Bathan to be relieved.

Regional PNP director Gonzales said that the Negros Occidental Provincial PNP director has the authority to relieve police chiefs.

“There should be a strong basis why a certain police chief has to be relieved," he said.

The theme for this year’s NEAM celebration, “Ensuring the Gains of Rural Electrification through Enlightened Member-Consumer-Owners,” coincides with that of the 48th NEA Founding Anniversary on August 6, 2017.
