The ChildFund, a global alliance of child-focused development organizations working in 63 countries to reduce child poverty and promote children’s rights, made waves in the Philippine sports scene when it successfully held its inaugural PRFU ChildFund Pass It Back Cup last August 5, 2017 at the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC)-Talisay Campus, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

The growing following for volleyball led various groups to bring popular teams in Manila to play in an exhibition game at STI-WNU Gymnasium this coming August 21, 2017 at 4:30pm. Carmela Arcolas Gamboa who led the organizing of the said games in the City says they will bring the Ateneo Lady Eagles and Banko Perlas Spikers in Bacolod.

The Government Expo and Trade Fair 2017 will be hosted by the KABISIG Foundation, Inc on October 17 to 19, 2017 at the SMX Convention Center, Bacolod City.

KABISIG is a non-government organization conceptualized under Presidential Proclamation No. 650 to help monitor and promote different programs and accomplishments of the government.

According to Daniel Guillem, KABISIG Chairman, the expo-trade fair is expected to have 150 participants coming from the government agencies, government owned and controlled corporations (GOCC), and other sectors, all over the country.

A Calatrava town resident survived a shooting by unidentified suspect in Sitio Pinamaktinan, Barangay Cambayobo, Calatrava town, Negros Occidental around 8:00 p.m. last Saturday.

Chief Inspector John Joel Batusbatusan, Calatrava PNP police chief identified the victim as Jerry De La Cruz Baynosa, 51.

He sustained gunshot wounds in the different parts of the body and was brought to Corazon Locsin Memorial Hospital in Bacolod City.

The suspect fled after the incident.

Three persons related to each other were wounded and injured in a shooting and hacking incident that took place around 9:00 p.m. in Saturday at Sitio Bangkal, Barangay Tampalon, Kabankalan City.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan City PNP chief identified the victims as Arjan Eliseo, 25, and his brother Marvin Eliseo, 19, both single, of the said place.

Santos identified the suspect as Rogelio Eliseo, 57, married, of Narra 3, Barangay Tampalon, Kabankalan City and the victims’ uncle.

Two persons were shot dead in separate incidents in Sipalay City last Sunday.

Police Chief Inspector Romeo Vargas of Sipalay City PNP identified the suspect as Jonathan Torno Bargayo, 35, single, farmer, of Purok Mabinuligon, Barangay Camindangan, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental and Antonio Patinio Repaso, 45, single, jobless, of Purok 1, Barangay 2, also in Sipalay City.

Bargayo was shot dead by unidentified suspect in Sitio Samak, Barangay Camindangan around 10:00 a.m. Sunday while resting in his improvised tent at his coffee plantation farm.

Two persons were killed, one a minor in separate road mishaps in Silay and Victorias cities over the weekend.

Superintendent D’Artagnan Katalbas identified the victim in Silay City as Rex Ian Donguines Duca, 47, married, of Barangay Guimbala-on, Silay City, Negros Occ.

The victim was driving his Honda 200R motorcycle along Barangay Bagtic road, where a road widening is ongoing, around 9:50 p.m. Saturday.

The Negros Press Club (NPC), in partnership with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will hold a Media Literacy Seminar tomorrow, Aug. 16 at L’Fisher Chalet in Bacolod City.

About 130 participants from mainstream media in Bohol, Dumaguete City, Metro Manila, Iloilo and Bacolod, as well as information officers from different local government units in Negros Occidental and national agencies, Mass Communication students, and local bloggers are expected to attend the seminar.

There is no Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) yet received by the Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office (PHO) and the Medical Unit of the Department of Education (DepEd)-Bacolod City.

Dr. Ernel Tumimbang, Provincial Health Officer, said yesterday, they have not received yet the IRR regarding the random drug testing for students.

DepEd should be coordinating with the local health offices once the IRR is received for implementation of the random drug testing in the local school levels, he said.

Considering that the job order (JO) casual employees of the local government are not covered by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), the local government of Bacolod City and Social Security System (SSS) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the contribution of JO casual employees. Job order casuals’ contribution will be on voluntary basis only.

Signatories in the MOA are Dr. Lilani B. Benedian, Division Head, Visayas West 1, and Lina V. Hilado, Branch head Bacolod East, all of SSS; and Mayor Evelio Leonardia representing the Bacolod City government.
