Frank Carbon, president of Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) said the business sector welcomes the increase of taxes and fuel because it will be off-set by the reduction of income tax return.

But he said, they would like to know where will the proceeds from the tax increase go, where will the government bring it. Like when the government imposed the sin tax for cigarettes, it was intended for health care services. “So we need to know what is the purpose of the tax increases for sugar and fuel,” Carbon said.

One of the three thieves was killed by watchmen of Alpis Construction located at Bacolod-Silay Access Road in the vicinity of Loyloy Bridge, Barangay Zone 15, Silay City around 2:30 a.m. yesterday.

The victim was identified as a certain Pato Ibañez, of legal age, of Purok Pine Tree, Barangay Bata, Bacolod city.

He was declared dead on arrival at Talisay City Health Office by Dr. Josabel Macote.

His two other companions identified as Ronel Erin Mocon, 29, married; and Richmond Guardilao Cuzon, 17, single, were arrested.

Two drug suspects were arrested in a drug bust in Purok Sigay, Barangay 2 and also arrested another with warrant around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Police Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias, Police Station 2 head identified the suspects as Jesmar Austria Diane, “Alias Motmot”, 18, single, of Purok Torre, Barangay Vista Alegre; and Renante De la Cruz Papa, 37, single, native of Central Lopez, Barangay Paraiso, Sagay City.

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved on first reading last August 2, 2017, a proposed ordinance authored by Councilor Wilson Gamboa, Jr., declaring the Third Day of May as Press Freedom Day in the Bacolod.

The Gamboa Proposed Ordinance defines Press or Media as communication channels through which news, entertainment, education, data, or promotional messages are disseminated; these include every broadcasting and narrowcasting medium such as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, billboards, direct mail, telephone, fax, the internet blogs and social media.
