The Third District of Negros Occidental continues to intensify its campaign to reach more families to enroll in the Negros Occidental Comprehensive Health Program (NOCHP) to avail of free medical services in times of need.

Congressman Alfredo Benitez continues to mobilize his District Office and satellite offices in cities of Victorias, Silay , Talisay and municipalities of Murcia and EB Magalona to reach far-flung upland and coastal communities, educating families of the benefits of the program.

Rev-X All Terrain defeated Rev-X Trekker, 87-78, on Wednesday in the 35 and below Fil-Sino Inter-Color Petron Cup Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Rev-X All Terrain facing a 59-68 deficit turned defensive and rode on the shoulders on the offense of Dante Ma and Luigi Coo that scored 10 points apiece to complete the come from behind win.

Rev-X trekker took the halftime, 51-44 lead behind its backcourt duo of Sean Wee and Joshua Co with producing 16 and 12 points respectively even as Ma scored 13 and Vincent Tan with 10 points for Rev-X ALL Terrain.

The three-day Sabor Bisaya Food Expo and Culinary Competition will open tomorrow, July 19, 2017 at SMX Convention Center in Bacolod City.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. will give the opening remarks during the ceremony.

The event is spearheaded by the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Negros Occidental (HRANO), Council of Hotel and Restaurant Educators of the Philippines–VI, and National Food Showdown.

The event will start with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to be followed by the parade of school banners and the opening program.

Atty. Juliana B. Carbon is re-assuming her post as Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) General manager on August 1, according to BACIWA insiders.

This, after the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Central Office in Quezon City has ordered her reinstatement to her position as general manager of BACIWA, after invalidating the appointment of Mario Macatangay as GM.

The CSC decision was promulgated July 12, and ordered BACIWA to pay Carbon’s back salaries starting August 18, 2015 until her actual reinstatement.

A man who earlier created alarm and scandal in a benefit dance was found dead in Purok Carmen, Barangay Miranda, Pontevedra town in Negros Occidental around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Pontevedra police authorities identified the victim as Benjie Gapulan Bautista, 27, single, of Purok Malinong in the barangay.

The victim was found along the pathway of Purok Carmen by Johanie Pamposa Gicangao, 27, married, female, of the place.

It was reported that his friend Roderick Villaspin has sent him near his house.

A motorcycle driver was killed when he sideswiped the Ceres bus conductor in front of Cadiz District Hospital along the national highway in Barangay Daga, Cadiz City around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police Chief Inspector Rocky Desear, Cadiz City PNP chief identified the victim as Regienald Dahay Hinggaray, 22, married, jobless, temporarily residing at Caridad 1 in Barangay Luna, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

Former Pagadian City Mayor and his wife lost more or less P3-million in jewelries and cash to robber/s at Lakawon Island Beach Resort and Spa located in Barangay Cadiz Viejo, Cadiz City

The couple discovered the robbery around 7:00 a.m. Sunday inside their rented Junior Suite at the Island resort.

Police Chief Inspector Rocky Desear, Cadiz City OIC police chief said the couple reported the incident to Cadiz City Police Office.

Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) operatives, in partnership with other agencies, are successful in their operations against cyber crime perpetrators, according to Bacolod Police Chief, Supt. Jack Wanky.

Wanky said, another suspect victimizing minors have been arrested and cases were filed before the court last Friday.

The suspect is presently detained at the Police Station 4.

A fisherman was found dead in the shoreline of Barangay Tuburan, EB Magalona around 8:00 a.m. Sunday.

Senior Inspector Bonifacio Aral, Jr., EB Magalona PNP chief identified the victim as Ricarido Ligayano Dela Cruz, 63, single, resident of the place.

Aral said the victim went fishing around 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the shoreline of Barangay Tuburan, but he may have fallen to the seawater. Another fisherman identified as Renante Astodillo saw his motorboat abandoned.

A charcoal maker was hacked dead by his co-charcoal maker in Barangay Yubo, La Carlota City around 8:00 p.m. Sunday.

The victim and the suspect were having a drinking spree when a misunderstanding erupted, resulting to an argument and eventually hacking.

The victim was identified as Rolly Estelloso Tumpong, 47, of Barangay Yubo in the city.

He sustained a hack wound at the back of his neck and was rushed to Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) Bacolod City District Engineering Office, the Manila-based Edison Construction & Development, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) are being asked on who gave the authority to cut scores of very old mangrove trees at a multi-million-peso flood control project site in Bacolod.

Electric cooperatives in Western Visayas will register their protest against the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) over its manual load shedding which has been imposed on all Visayas electric coops.

This was bared yesterday by Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) general manager Sulpicio Lagarde, Jr. during the “transparency meeting” at Ceneco main office in Bacolod.
