Arvin Gustilo bails out Ultra Extra with a go ahead bank shot to snatch a victory from the claws of defeat to stun Sprint 4t Rider, 81-80, in the 36 and above of the Fil-Sino Inter-Color Petron Cup at Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Gustilo scored on a one handed bank shot with 4.2 seconds left to shock Sprint 4t Rider who led the whole game and had a double digit lead in the payoff period.

Ceres Negros Football Club cameout with a solid 5-2 win to sweep the visiting Stallion Laguna FC in the ongoing 2017 Philippines Football League at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod city over the weekend.

The home squad delighted the 2,640 fans at Panaad with Stephan Schröck opening the scoring in the 12th minute – beating Stallion keeper Roland Sadia as Jeffrey Christaens made it doubled in the 25th minute on a pass from the former SpVgg Greuther Fürth midfielder.

A year ago, the well-admired Mayor of the City of Davao in the person of Rodrigo Roa Duterte, assumed the highest position of Government, the Presidency.

The President from Mindanao assumed office with a promise to bring change in government. Prior to his swearing in, his favorite musician, singer icon Ka Freddie Aguilar, a good friend of mine, sung with passion “Duterte Para sa Tunay na Pagbabago”. This song , the lyrics of it, is President Duterte's Promise to the people of the Republic of the Philippines.

Two laborers hacked dead a victim in Purok Palangga in Barangay Tapi in Kabankalan Coty around 8:00 in the evening Thursday.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan city PNP chief identified the victim as Arson Fat Eletico, 32, married and resident of the place.

He sustained hacked wound in the left neck and rushed to Tabugon District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by attending physician.

Former Negros Occidental Governor Rafael Coscolluela defended Vice President Leni Robredo against the attack made by Assistant Secretary Lorraine Marie Badoy on her Facebook account by calling her a “biseng basurera.”

Coscolluela, a staunch supporter of Robredo during last year’s national elections said that “it was so true to form that even as Vice President, Leni would look for hand-me-downs to furnish her daughter’s apartment in Boston.”

The Supreme Court will implement a continuous trial system for drug cases effective September 1, Associate Justice Oscar Herrera Jr. said.

“Maybe it will help expedite the resolution of drug cases,” Herrera, one of the speakers in the 3-day Seminar-Workshop on Dangerous Drugs Law for Judges, Prosecutors and Law Enforcers of the 6th Judicial Region, organized by the Philippine Judicial Academy of the Supreme Court in partnership with the Dangerous Drugs Board here.

Suicide cases are, indeed common in Negros Occidental.

This time, a 51-year-old farmer was found dead by his father hanging on the beam of their house in Purok Ipil-Ipil in Barangay Tampalon, Kabanklan City on Thursday morning.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan City PNP chief, identified the victim as Jimmy De La Torre Villarmino, Sr., married and resident of the place.

He was found by his father Juanito Villarmino, 80. He was immediately rushed to the Lorenzo Zayco Memorial District Hospital but was pronounce dead-on-arrival.

A rapist and a murderer were served with warrants of arrest, in separate police operations in Victorias and Silay cities Thursday.

In Victorias, Stephen Belarma Doriman, 38 years, married of Zone 6, Bangga Daan, Barangay 1 in the city, was served with arrest warrant while inside the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Ardosa Street in Barangay 2, Victorias on Thursday afternoon.

A farmer was arrested with a firearm inside a videoke bar in Kabankalan City, while a dismissed cop was able to escape from a raid in San Carlos City, Friday.

Police Supt. Rhea Santos, Kabankalan PNP chief, identified the farmer-suspect as Tedy Tanjay Bravo, 58, married, of Purok Sirisa, Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan.

Bravo was collared inside Snow Light Videoke Bar along Justice Y. Perez Avenue in Barangay 2, Kabankalan Friday night.

Police Insp. Reynaldo Severino, Kabankalan deputy police chief, led the arresting police officers.

A grandmother wants her two grandchildren to be with her from the custody of their father whom she described as “not taking care of them.”

Gemma Guanzon, in a letter to John Chong, commander of Task Force Kasanag (TFK) said she wants to get her grandchildren as they are in a ”pitiful state” with their father, a cop at the Bago City PNP.

Guanzon told local reporters yesterday, her daughter who lived in with the cop died seven months ago and her death wish was for her mother to take care of her children.

A series of armed atrocities attributed to the New People’s Army (NPA) hit Negros Occidental since the past few weeks.

Among the latest to be victimized by the NPA’s armed violence was Biboy Gayagas, barangay captain of Brgy. Bacong, Bago City, whose game fowl farm was attacked by an undetermined number of rebels yesterday morning.

Senior Inspector Joefer Cabural, Bago City PNP chief said, Gayagas got hit in his shoulders and feet and was rushed to a private hospital in Bacolod City.

Responding policemen recovered empty shells of a carbine rifle.
