Now on its 3rd season, the Tenpin Master’s Challenge’s Tournament of Champions: “Grandmaster Showdown” is ready and set to bowl off at Lopue’s East Bowling Center in Bacolod City on June 29.

The yearlong tenpin bowling monthly qualifying shootouts have identified ten best bowlers in Bacolod and Negros Occidental which will compete with each other for the 2017 Bowler of the Year title.

Amid calls for its postponement, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is preparing itself for the October 23, 2017 barangay and Sanggunian Kabataan (SK) elections.

Atty. Jessie Suarez, provincial election supervisor yesterday said that they will follow the calendar of activities as contained in COMELEC Resolution No. 101-77 released on March this year.

Under the resolution, the election period will be from September 23 to October 30, the filing of candidacies will be on September 23 to September 30, the campaign period will be from October 14 to October 31.

The last of the three inmates who bolted the Metro Bacolod District Jail-Special Intensive Care Area (MBDJ-Sica) at Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City last June 4 was recaptured by police operatives in Purok Sunrise, Barangay Blumentritt, Murcia town in Negros Occidental around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday on June 20.

Marlon Chaves Molina, 38, single, reportedly a resident of the place was re-captured by police operatives of Murcia PNP led by Senior Inspector Ronald Santillan, OIC police chief of Murcia.

Eleven fishermen were arrested by local police in Hinigaran and Binalbagan towns in Negros Occidental on Tuesday.

The Bantay Dagat in Hinigaran, under the direct supervision of Senior Inspector Gerard Bathan, OIC police chief of Hinigaran, identified the fisherman as Gaming De La Cruz, 52, married, of Barangay Enclaro, Binalbagan.

He was fishing in the seawaters of Hinigaran in a pumpboat owned by Rodel Tuba of Barangay Enclaro when he was arrested for violating the municipal ordinance around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Barangay Tagda, Hinigaran.

Three persons were killed and two others were injured in two separate road accidents in Silay and Bago cities Tuesday.

In Silay City, the victim was identified by Superintendent Willy Diel, Silay City PNP chief, as Francis Aligcomot Celiz, 28, single, of Kalye 11, Barangay 2, Silay City, Negros Occidental.

He was driving his Honda 155 motorcycle going north around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday when he failed to control it and hit a Gmelina tree in the center island of Rizal national highway along Seaview Subdivision, Barangay Guinhalaran, Silay City.

The wife of an architect who perished in a car crash on June 13 around 2:40 p.m. is looking for the cash carried by her husband intended for the salary of their construction workers in Escalante City.

The wife of architect Albert Advincula Catapang, 50, married, resident of Block 5, Lot 19, Hillside Subdivision, Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City claimed that her husband was carrying P200, 000 cash.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Director General Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa is scheduled to arrive today in Negros Occidental with visits to the city’s of Bacolod and Bago.

Senior Insp. Armilyn Vargas, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-18 (PRO-18) said Dela Rosa will arrive this afternoon at the Bacolod-Silay Airport.

He is scheduled to meet with police officials in the region and will spend the night in Bacolod City.
