Senator Sherwin Gatchalian yesterday said he is not in in favor of proposals to have a separate power spot market for the Visayas.

Gatchalian, a guest speaker of the ongoing conference of the Philippine Councilor’s League in this city, said that “one advantage of having a unified spot market is flexibility.”

The head negotiator of the government’s peace panel with the National Democratic Front wants a representative of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) to be one of its members.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Belo III during his talk on the peace process before participants of the PCL conference at the SMX Convention Center, Bacolod City yesterday said that the councilors “are in the frontliners of government.”

“We need your support. We need your inputs especially on issues on socio-economic reform,” he said.

Sagay Water District (SWD) headed by its General Manager, Engr. Manfred M. Fuentesfina led the inauguration of the 12-ton per day Seawater Desalination Reverse Osmosis System Refilling Station in Barangay Molocaboc this city recently. Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Judy M. Taguiwalo, a Sagaynon herself, flew all the way from Manila to Sagay City to witness another technological breakthrough that would solve scarcity of potable water supply in this island barangay.

A resident of Barangay Poblacion in Ayungon town, Negros Oriental was shot dead inside the town’s public market around 12:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Police Senior Inspector Romeo Cubo, Ayungon PNP chief identified the victim as Richil Ibero Tenebroso, “Alias Chopoy”, 46, resident of Barangay Poblacion in Ayungon town.

The victim arrived in the public market riding on his motorcycle and parked it outside when an unidentified suspect with his face covered shot him at the back.

He was killed on the spot from a .45 caliber firearm.

The municipal government of La Castellana will avail P80 million for Municipal Development Fund Office of the Department of Finance for the town’s Solid Waste Management (SWM) Project, Mayor Rhumyla Mangilimutan said.

Mangilimutan said that part of the loan will be acquired heavy equipment such as loader, garbage compactor and dump truck which will all undergo the normal bidding procedure.

The town will buy land for its sanitary landfill, the Mayor said.

A government employee of Hinobaan town in Negros Occidental was served with arrest warrant for violation of Section 8 of RA 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standard for Public Official and Employees) around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 14.

Estanislao Valiao Cayanan, 56, married, resident of Purok Rose B, Barangay Talacagay, Hinobaan-an, Negros Occidental was arrested by local police led by Senior Inspector Leomel Gonzaga.

Cayanan is the department head of Municipal Agriculture Office of the town.

A sugarcane worker was found dead inside the canefield where he was working at Hacienda San Jose, Barangay San Jose, Tanjay City, Negros Oriental at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 14.

The victim was identified as Florencio Flores, 63, married, native of Bindoy town, Negros Oriental.

His co-worker Madjora Lopez found him in the middle of the sugarcane plantation lifeless. Lopez said he was last seen June 13, 2017 at the said plantation but never came back to their barracks.

Three drug suspects were arrested in separate drug bust in Victorias City and Cauayan Wednesday, June 15.

Superintendent German Garbosa, Victorias City PNP chief identified the arrested suspect as Jonathan Sayson Bromo, 20, single, of St. Michael Subdivision, Phase 1, Barangay Alicante, Negros Occidental.

He was arrested at Osmeña Avenue National Highway in Barangay 13, Victorias City around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 14.

Worth P30,000 of suspected shabu were confiscated from three suspects arrested Tuesday in Purok Alunan Yulo, Barangay 35, Bacolod City.

City Drug Enforcement Unit of Bacolod City Police Office led by Inspector Adrian James Albaytar, Police Station 1 under Senior Inspector Leo Gestopa and Regional Special Operation Group-18 led by Inspector Joey Mara arrested the three suspects at the place.

The joint operation of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Negros Island Region (BJMP-NIR) and the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Cadiz City Police Station led to the recapture of a jail escapee from the Metro Bacolod District Jail-Special Intensive Care Area (MBDJ-SICA) June 14.

The sugar industry has found another ally in Senator Sherwin Gatchalian in its efforts to reduce the proposed P10 per liter proposed excise tax.

Gathalian said that he expects “adjustments on the proposal especially on sugar-sweetened beverages because it is a new provision which was not discussed in the Senate.”

Chief Supt. Edmund Gonzales, Negros Island Region (NIR) police director said they are focusing on sealing areas in the NIR to contain the conflict taking place in Marawi City.

He said the Visayas Islands are actually close to Mindanao Island so that the PNP and other government troopers should be 100 percent prepared.

As to the refugees coming from Marawi, Gonzales said various government agencies will attend to their needs being victims of the armed conflict.
