Giving impetus to this year’s independence day celebration, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6 has provided jobs to 147 jobseekers according to Regional Director Henry John Jalbuena.

He said the job hiring was part of the Job and Business Fairs of DOLE. Those hired on-the-spot (HOTs) represent around 25 per cent of the 595 qualified applicants, the highest so far that Region 6 has achieved.

In 2016, the Region recorded a total of 95 HOTS, or 23 per cent of the 411 qualified applicants.

Different local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental will avail of a loan from the Municipal Development Fund Office of the Department of Finance to finance several projects worth P1.406 billion.

Board Member Salvador Escalante, chair of the Sanggunian Panlalawigan Committee on Budget and Finance said that the Provincial Development Council (PDC) earlier approved the loan application of 25 of the 31 LGUs in the province.

There is urgency to amend Republic Act No. 7724, otherwise known as the commemoration of Bacolod City Charter Day, that Mayor Evelio Leonardia requested Cong. Greg Gasataya to file a bill amending Republic Act No. 7724, that “erroneously set a wrong date for the celebration of the Charter Day of Bacolod”.

This is the appropriate time to correct a “historic error,” Leonardia said.

Bacoleños are celebrating once again a historic event on June 18, the day that President Manuel L. Quezon signed Commonwealth Act No. 326 creating Bacolod as a city.

A person who was living alone and earlier mauled by his neighbour in Purok Batad, Barangay Sampinit, Bago City died around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Bago City PNP identified the victim as Delfin Millena Gaborno, 56, single, watchman, while the suspect is Emmanuel Pajardo, all residents of the said place.

Police investigation said that the incident was due to misunderstanding, the reason the victim was earlier mauled by the suspect.

A vintage bomb was found in Hacienda San Antonio 1, Barangay Dos Hermanas, Talisay City, Negros Occidental around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A resident, Susan Orense informed Talisay City PNP about the bomb, who responded to the area, led by Superintendent Adonis Rosales. The commander of San Jose Detachment of Philippine Army also aided the group, and found a 17-inch long and 10-kilo vintage bomb.

The bomb will be turned over to Firearms and Explosives Division at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr., in Bacolod City.*( Cyrus M. Garde)

The backrider of a motorcycle was killed while its driver was injured when it hit a vehicle along McKinley Street in front of Gate 4 of St. Francis Subdivision in Barangay 5, Silay City around 8:25 a.m. last Tuesday.

Rico Delogar Aguirre, 48, of Hacienda San German, Silay City reportedly expired at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital due to head and body injuries.

Earlier, they were brought to Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City but was transferred to CLMMRH in Bacolod City.

A person who claimed he is a Barangay Tanod (watchman) of Sitio Luan-Luan, Barangay Canaway, Siaton town, Negros Oriental was instead arrested after he brought a person to Siaton PNP who was mauled around 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 13.

The Barangay Tanod, identified as Romeo Santander Tag-at, 65, resident of the said place,

reportedly escorted Henry Bendijo, victim of physical injuries, to the police station located at Barangay Poblacion in Siaton.

Is the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) in Negros Occidental gearing up for a revitalized fight in the 2019 elections?

This seems to be the case after Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson confirmed that his party is in “a recruitment phase” right now in the province.

“To my understanding, yes,” Lacson said.

This developed after reports came out that former ambassador and business tycoon Eduardo Cojuangco Jr. has returned as the chairman of one of the biggest political parties in the country.

An architect was killed when his car bumped the fence of a house in Bangga Akasya in Barangay Luna, Cadiz City Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Inspector Rocky Desear, OIC police chief of Cadiz Police Station, said the victim was Albert Advincula Catapang, 50, married, of Block 5, Lot 19, Hillside Subdivision, Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

Catapang was driving a Toyota Vios Sedan bound for Escalante City when he accidentally crossed the opposite lane and bumped the bamboo fence of Jinky Jaspe’s house and a mango tree.
