‘Addict’ 52-Yr-Old Stabs His 86-yr-old Ma 73 Times, Eats Part of Her Body
A man who underwent rehabilitation for drug addiction stabbed his mother 73 times and ate her flesh Sunday in a remote village in Sibulan town in Negros Oriental.
The police identified the suspect as Roger Manaban, 52, married, who was caught by police in possession of the murder weapon, and with bloodstains on his shorts, t-shirt, and face.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect stabbed his mother Josefina Manaban, 86, a widow, of Purok 5, Brgy. Boloc-boloc, several times, slashed her stomach and face, ate the flesh, and threw body parts outside the house.
Parricide charges has been filed against the suspect.
Violeta dela Peña, a daughter of the victim, told the police that she was bringing food for her mother when she noticed the very unusual behavior of her elder brother, who arrived at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the house.
Dela Peña said that her brother has a wife and two children in Davao but returned to Negros Oriental a year ago.
“My brother has no permanent address and work, as he lives off one relative to the other,” she said, adding that he was rehabilitated not only once because of drug addiction.*(NDB)
