UNEGA Prepares for 2019 Polls

Dominant provincial party United Negros Alliance has started preparing for the 2019 polls with the election of the members of its executive committee Friday.

In that convention at Nature’s Village Hotel and Restaurant in Talisay City, elected as chairman was Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Maranon III, and members are Don Salvador Benedicto Mayor Lawrence Marxlen Dela Cruz for the first district, Congressman Leo Rafael Cueva for the 2nd district, Board Member David Albert Lacson for the 3rd district, Cong. Juliet Marie Ferrer for the 4, SB Member Oscar Yulo for the 5th, and Board Member Valentino Miguel Alonso for the 6th.

“UNEGA is stronger now but we’re not yet thinking of the 2019 elections, we’re thinking everyday for the progress and development of the province”, Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr., said.

Maranon said he is happy that all the towns and cities under UNEGA in the province are still unified.

Based on the attendance during the event, a total of 213 members attended compared to only 195 last year.

Board Member Salvador Escalante said the Execom will formulate guidelines and policies in the nomination of candidates for the 2019 elections, facilitate information dissemination of the guidelines and policies to the members, screen and review nominations for the 2019 elections and select the preferred nominees and candidates for the 2019 elections.

Mayors who attended the UNEGA convention were Richard Jaojoco of Toboso, Don Salvador Benedicto Mayor Lawrence Marxlen Dela Cruz, Manapla Mayor Lourdes Escalante, Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Maranon III, Cadiz City Mayor Patrick Escalante, Nicholas Yulo of Bago City, Luis Jalandoni of La Carlota , Jilson Tubillara of San Enrique, Jose Benito Alonso of Pontevedra, Mayor Joselito Malabor of Isabela, Binalbagan Mayor Emmanuel Aranda, Rhumyla Mangilimutan of La Castellana;

Cauayan Acting Mayor Rico James Tabujara, Candoni Mayor Cicero Borromeo of Candoni and Hinobaan Mayor Ernesto Estrao.

Board members present were Escalante and Samson Mirhan of the 2nd district, David Lacson of the 3rd, Victor Javellana and Jose Maria Alonso of the 4th, Renator Malabor, Jr. and Alain Gatuslao of the 5th district.

Cueva, Ferrer and incumbent Rep. Alejandro Mirasol were also present.

Escalante said that the governorship is being offered by UNEGA to Ferrer.

“If ever UNEGA fields a candidate for governor it will come from the ranks or incumbent local officials”, he said.

In December this year, the probable candidates for the 2019 elections could already be determined, Escalante said.*
