Cop Mauled by 2 Suspects
A policeman assigned at the Bacolod City Police Station 8 was mauled by two suspects he earlier pacified for creating alarm and scandal along Alijis Road at Green Plains in Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod Sunday morning.
His responding companions were able to arrest one of the suspects but the other one escaped.
The victim, PO2 Roberto Gaurana, 36, married of Barangay Tangub, sustained injuries on his head and face.
Police Senior Inspector Wilfredo Benoman, Police Station 8 chief. identified the suspects as Clark Alegrado Niña, 19, single of Adela Street in Alijis-Murcia Road, Bacolod, and Benjamin Morillo Javeliana, 36, single of Purok Rojas, Barangay Tangub, Bacolod.
Gaurana was with his wife Leonora Casipong having snacks at a convenience store along Alijis Road at Green Plains when the suspects threw empty beer bottles on the street.
He reportedly pacified the two identifying himself as a cop but suddenly one of the suspects, later identified as Clark Nina, punched him, hitting his face.
He was about to draw his firearm when the other suspect identified as Benjamin Javeliana grabbed his service firearm. While grappling, Nina reportedly punched him several times,. but when responding cops from Police Station 8 arrived they arrested Javeliana.
Nina was able to escape.
Gaurana was brought by his companions to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment.
Hot pursuit operation was conducted against Clark Nina, while Javeliana is detained.
Disobedience and direct assault upon an agent or person in authority will be filed against the suspects in court. * (Cyrus M. Garde)
