Gov Welcomes Rallyists’ Criticisms

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. welcomes the issues raised by the cause oriented organizations that held a rally in front of the capitol building yesterday.

Led by Bayan -Negros spokesperson Christian Tuayon, the rallyists expressed their opposition against the proposed shipyard at Sitio Ubong, Brgy Bacuyangan, Hinobaan, Negros Occidental.

Tuayon in a radio broadcast said, the area intended for the shipyard will dislocate the residents, who are mostly holders of Certificate of Land Ownership (CLOA) issued by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), most of them are farmers and fishermen.

Tuayon also uttered uncalled for comments hitting personal the governor, and said they do not expect that the governor will listen to their opposition towards the project. But they will consider this as debt of the governor to the poor and that he will be judged by the people on the proper time.

Actually the shipyard project in Hinobaan is expected to provide livelihood to the people, aside from boosting the economic activity of Hinobaan.*(Edith B. Colmo)
