Castil Named Prov’l PNP Director

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. has formally named acting provincial police director Senior Supt. Rodolfo Castil, Jr., as director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO).

Marañon yesterday said his “marching order” for Castil is “to make Negros Occ. peaceful, drug-free, and one of the top investment and tourist destinations in the country.”

“We are now number two in the tourist destination, and nobody will come here if there is always trouble in here,” the governor said.

Marañon said that he wants that the province be the country’s top destination for domestic tourist.

His appointment of Castil as NOPPO chief comes as a surprise following his earlier statement that he will not appoint any of the three candidates submitted by Camp Crame of which Castil’s name was included.

Castil replaced Senior Supt. Renato Gumban who retired in March this year.

For his part, Castil said they are just waiting for the final order from the national headquarters in Camp Crame to formalize his appointment.

He added he will follow the governor’s order to maintain the peace and order in Negros Occidental.*(PST)
