Bizmen Welcome Sugar Tax Hike But Ask Where will it Go
Frank Carbon, president of Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) said the business sector welcomes the increase of taxes and fuel because it will be off-set by the reduction of income tax return.
But he said, they would like to know where will the proceeds from the tax increase go, where will the government bring it. Like when the government imposed the sin tax for cigarettes, it was intended for health care services. “So we need to know what is the purpose of the tax increases for sugar and fuel,” Carbon said.
Carbon also said, they are supporting the anti-smoking ban because it is beneficial to everybody’s health. As a matter of fact, he said, before the smoking ban, they already have imposed no smoking in the vessels, passenger terminals and piers.*(EBColmo)
