DILG Usec Hinlo Clarifies Reports

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Jesus “JV” Hinlo clarified reports in a media outlet on the status of the Negros Island Region (NIR) and on the possible involvement of some Negros politicians in illegal drugs.

In his message to the media late in the afternoon of August 1, 2017, he wrote:

Clarification on two points on my July 31, 2017 interview by media at the Bacolod New Gov’t Center:

1) The headline “NIR not in 2018 national budget - Hinlo” as of today August 1, 2017 (in a different newspaper), I have not yet seen the approved 2018 budget from Congress. I HOPE THAT THE NIR WILL BE INCLUDED; and,

2) It is wrong to conclude that I allegedly said that there is no local politician involved in the drug trade in Negros. What I said was that the first list of the President does not include a politician in Negros Occidental. I added that I have not seen the 2nd and subsequent lists. I HOPE THAT THERE IS NONE.*(APT)
