15 Smokers Nabbed
As of yesterday, Monday, July 31, there were 15 violators of anti-smoking ban apprehended by the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO).
Pol Supt. Luis Acebuche, BTAO head said, out of 15, two are jeepney drivers, others are passengers. This is worth noting, he said, because the first to be oriented on the anti smoking ban were the jeepney drivers. The violators were issued with citation tickets for their penalty to comply with. After 72 hours, if they have not settled the penalty, they will be charged accordingly before the court, he said.
Acebuche also said, establishments or stores selling cigarettes must be 100 meters away from the school premises. Apprehending officers of violators in the business establishments are the representatives of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), the city legal office and the City Health Office (CHO).
To rigidly implement the anti smoking ban as well as other crimes along the highway, Acebuche also said the CCTV cameras are already coming as Mayor Evelio Leonardia has ordered the purchase.*(Edith B. Colmo)
