Moises Padilla ‘Boycotts’ Panaad
Moises Padilla town will boycott this year’s edition of the Panaad Festival in Bacolod City set to kick-off tomorrow, April 22.
Ma. Lina Sanogal, Festival Director yesterday said that the municipal government has not yet informed the provincial government the reason why they won’t join the celebration.
“We did not receive any letter from them but the town’s representatives informed us that they will not open their pavillion nor participate in any competition.
“It’s hard to speculate as to their reason,” Sanogal said, adding that they are “sad” of the development.
This is the first time a local government unit will not join the festival, she pointed out.
Sanogal said town officials, especially Mayor Magdaleno Peña should reconsider their decision.
“Moises Padilla is currently one of the poorest local government units in the province, and they really need the exposure,” she said, adding that “The festival is really for the Negrosanons.”
She said that each participating LGU gets a P170,000 assistance from the Capitol with the condition that it joins at least five events of the Panaad.
Sanogal said that La Carlota City will open its pavillion but will not join any event “as it coincides with its own annual Pasalamat Festival.”
Reached for any statement on the decision not to join the Panaad, Peña said he has no comment.*
