Boston defeated Watchmen Daily Journal/Vertex, 96-93 to claim the title in the 1st PROBAC/LNA7 Invitational Basketball tournament at West Negros University gym.

Jerald Abrot scored 29 points, all in the second half for Boston Finance in a closely fought do-or-die battle Wednesday night.

Watchmen opened a strong first quarter performance on a 21-15 advantage behind Ceasar Tan and Marion Upu-an 8 and 7 points each while Neil Deocuariza led Boston with 7 points.

The Journal kept the momentum in the second quarter as Jun-Jun Alisbo shot 12 points to spearhead Watchmen’s 22-20 run but the balanced scoring from RB Chua, Matt Delis and Brad Hojilla had pushed Boston at striking distance at the end of the half, 43-35.

Taboy Corriente stunned Boston’s defense as he exploded for 17 points of Watchmen’s 27 total quarter output while Elmer Antonio added 8 points as Abrot nailed 15 points for Boston.

However, Yan Dy and Abrot came out a huge game in the playoff period with 15 and 14 points apiece to power Boston’s last run beating Alisbo and Upu-an’s 11 points each.

Alisbo tried to extend the game on a triple with 8 seconds left in the ball game but fall short as Boston sealed the match.

Backing Abrot are Dy with 17 points, Delis with 12, Chua with 11, and John Villaroman and Deocuariza with 7 points apiece and Hojilla with 6 points.

On the other hand, Alisbo topscored Watchmen in losing effort with 23 points as Upu-an added 18 points, Corriente with 17 points, Antonio 10, Tan 9 and Pril Gacho with 8 points.*
