The provincial government of Negros Occidental may commend the four Negrense players who snatched the World Series title in Big League (16-18) held in Kalamazoo, Michigan last August 3 to 8, 2012.

In the text message sent to Mr. Angel Verdeflor, Provincial Sports Coordinator, he said he will recommend the giving of commendation to Michelle Lentija and Charmaine Joy Oria of Bacolod City; Glesyl Opjer of Silay City and Queeny Sabobo of Hinobaan, Negros Occidental as part of the Philippine team who represent Asia Pacific region in the Big League (14-18) World Series.

The other members of the champion team are Rizza Bernardino of Laguna, Mary Jane Pabellar of Cavite, Andrea Mae Gonzales, Baby Jane Raro, Krisna Paguican- all of UAAP champion Adamson University softball team; Gene Joy Parilla, Kristina Lacupa and Maria Luna Amparo, all of University of Sto. Tomas softball team.

Lentija, Opjer and Sabobo were part also of Adamson University softball team, while Oria of UST team. Sabobo and Oria were all freshmen college students, while Lentija and Opjer, already on their sophomore year.

They beat West (Los Angeles, California) 14-2 in the championship after sweeping their other assignments posting a win, 12-2 against Central last August 6 and defeated East Division, 11-6 on August 7.

The four Negrenses like their other teammates, while donning Western Visayas color that has claimed the Palarong Pambansa title for 16 times, are all World Series veterans joining the Major League (11-12); Junior League (13-14) and Senior League (14-16).

They made the province proud in the Palarong Pambansa and majority of them are already donning the national color as part of the Philippine Softball Team.* (CMGarde)
