Sports: Ceres Pasalubong, New Energy Notch Wins in SJI Alumni Caging
New Energy Mktg. /Shakey’s soars to its second win over Waterfull/Fyr Fyter 1993-95, 84-69 even as Ceres Pasalubong 2006-07 debuted with a bang as it routed Raga Raga Inc. 2003-05, 86-61 in the 5th SJI Alumni Basketball Friendship Cup at the Msgr. John B. Liu Activities Center Tuesday.

Waterfull surprised Shakey’s in the first quarter as it took a 28-17 lead with Alex Fernandez scoring 14 points and Michael Ang added 6, even as Charles Del Castillo had 7 points for Shakey’s.
A 10-0 blast at the start of the second quarter by New Energy Marketing cut the lead to a point, but Waterfull good passing plays resulted in several easy baskets for Tubby Villanueva who scored 7 points in the quarter to still remain on top, 42-39 by halftime.
Shakey’s went into high gear in the second half outscoring Celcor, 45-27 as Danty Ma scored 10 and Del Castillo added 8.
Michael Ang was the lone bright spot for Waterfull as he sunk four triples for 12 points, but lacks the support from his teammates.
Del Castillo paced New Energy with 15, Luigi Coo added 13, Mark Coo 10 shot, Allen Dionela made 9 and Ralph Geraldoy had 7.
Ang finished with 18 points, Monroe Chua and Tubby Villanueva drilled 8 each.
In the second game, Martin Jalandoni and Alvin Dionela combined for 17 points as Ceres moved ahead to 22-11 in the first quarter.
The trio of Brian Coo, Raymund Lacson and Axel Yao combined for 21 points as the lead ballooned to 45-19.
Raga made headway in the third quarter as it scored 32 points in the quarter led by the quartet of Marco Ongsingco, Michael Sian, Mark Vasquez and Joel Bacabac and drew closer at 63-51.
But Raga offense went south in the payoff quarter as they can only score 10 points, while Ceres drew its offense from Raymund Lacson with 8 points, while Dionela and Coo with 4 points apiece.
Lacson had a game high 21 points, Yao scored 13, Coo and Dionela hit 12 apiece and , Jalandoni shot 11.
Vasquez made 13 in a losing effort of Raga, Ongsinco and Sian added 11 points each and Bacabac 10.* ( NDB)
