The first business establishment to adopt the no plastic ordinance of Bacolod City is Lopue’s East Department Store. To start eliminating the use of plastic

for wrapping the sold items, the store uses paper bags or papers to wrap the sold items every Wednesday . Even the papers used as wrappers of stocks delivered to store, Lopue’s management recycles these by wrapping the sold items.

The customers do not ask anymore why they use paper for wrapping their purchased items. According to the salespersons, recycling the papers for wrapping purposes also unclog the piles of papers in their stock room.

Eliminating the use of plastics is pursuant to City Ordinance 562, known as the Plastic Bags Regulation Ordinance authored by Councilor Em Ang. This Ordinance will be fully implemented on November 23, 2012.

For this reason, Councilor Ang is intensifying the information dissemination campaign in the barangays and public markets, to brief the residents on the importance of eliminating the use of plastics. Instead, encourage the citizens to use alternative packaging materials such as woven bags (bayong), cloth bags (katsa), paper bags and other similar materials.

Councilor Ang also encourages everyone to promote the "Bring Your Own Bag" program, by bringing bags or packaging materials when marketing.*(EBColmo)
