Local News: Defective Traffic Lights for Transfer/Repair
Traffic lights affected by diggings due to the construction projects of various entities will be repaired or transferred. Thus said Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, acting city mayor, identifying the old traffic light near Pepsi-Cola which will be transferred to Back-up 6 at Libertad. Sayson said the budget for this is ready and documentation needed is underway.
He also said the traffic lights at the Lopue’s East Area, and at Bangga Cory, are both affected by construction work , as well as the one at corner Libertad and Lacson Streets (the oldest traffic light in the city) are due for major repairs. The budget for these should be covered by the 2013 budget.
Sayson also said, the repairs of BACIWA, DPWH and communication companies have damaged the underground wirings of the traffic lights. These units have also been in use for many years already.
These street lights that have malfunctioned or are totally out of commission, pose great inconvenience and danger to pedestrians. It is sad to note however, that the blame is being hurled against the city officials, Sayson further said.
The budget for repair of traffic lights should assess first the extent of damage before appropriating the budget, he said.* (EBColmo)
