The widely-bruited about and complete with an alleged list of a majority of chief executives who have decided to cast their fortunes with Vice-Governor Genaro Alvarez, who is reportedly gunning for the governorship as against incumbent Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. is just a mess of unpalatable pottage, so to speak, Don Salvador Benedicto Mayor Marxlene de la Cruz and his father Provincial board member Nehemias de la Cruz said in an interview over Aksyon Radyo Bacolod and NNF //NDB yesterday.

The young De la Cruz said he was surprised by the list reported in a media news report the other day, saying he was among 13 chief executives in the province, who reportedly have indicated they were strongly batting for an Alvarez governorship. There was no iota of truth in the report, said De la Cruz, saying he was definitely still for the incumbent governor, Alfredo Marañon Jr.

He is still in support of Marañon including his father, provincial board member Nehemias de la Cruz and his mother Cynthia de la Cruz, DSB vice-mayor.

In a follow-up interview, board member De la Cruz confirmed his son’s statement, saying it was a list concocted by a woman who is known to be acting as a spin doctor for the vice-governor.

Three others in the list of those who were supposedly not batting for Marañon have indicated lately the list was erroneous and was but a psychological warfare ploy. Those who are for Marañon, including Talisay Mayor Eric Saratan, La Carlota’s Juliet Ferrer, San Enrique town Mayor Mario Magno, Jose Ma. Alonso of Pontevedra, Hermilo Aguilar of Hinigaran, Francis Malabor of Isabela, Bordig Nicor of La Castellana town and Francisco Nemenzo have not authorized the listing of their names in the "drawing" list, said De la Cruz.

The young de la Cruz is vice-president of the provincial Mayor’s League with EB Magalona’s David Lacson as President. There is still fluidity in the political situation in the province, he said.* (EAC)
