A three-day Pre-NOPSSCEA basketball tournament will start this Friday until Sunday, August 10, 11 & 12, 2012 at West Negros University gym.

Top four teams of the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association (NOPSSCEA) collegiate basketball will pit each other before the start of regular season of men’s collegiate basketball. The NOPSSCEA men’s basketball tournament will start September 18.

This tournament is also to assess the strength of each team in the NOPSSCEA tournament proper with the winner to represent in the upcoming Philippine Collegiate Champion League slated in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on October 14 to 16, 2012.

Pastor Renato Bravo is the tournament commissioner in the collegiate and secondary level of basketball in NOPSSCEA, while Elvis Atinado in the elementary division.

The Pre-NOPSSCEA collegiate basketball tournament is aimed at raising funds for the forth coming regular NOPSSCEA tourney days after this event where collegiate basketball will start August 31. Bravo said, the tourney also served as gauge to the outcome of the tournament proper in the regular NOPSSCEA. He added the tournament will be a single round robin, with the top two teams to dispute the title.

The four collegiate teams are West Negros University Mustangs, University of St. La Salle Stingers, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Rams and Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod Eagles.

Tony Agustin serves as NOPSSCEA Sports Chairman.* (NDB)
