Two Bacolod-based taekwondo clubs, the Hannah Taekwondo and Negros Tiger Union (NTU-Tigers) brought home the bacon in the Smart-sponsored 35th National Taekwondo Championship held at Makati Coliseum last July 28-29, 2012.
Hannah TKD Team was the over-all champion in the elementary boys division, with Marcus Hinojas declared as Most Valuable Player (MVP). Hannah elementary division taekwondo team dislodged defending champion Baguio City for the title.
Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano provided moral support to the players until the end of the game, according to Coach Vic Feria.
Meanwhile, the Negros Taekwondo Union-Tigers grade school girls’ team also brought home the championship for the fifth year in the said tournament.
Nine-time best coach awardee Jim Jim Chua mentored the young teams from Bacolod City to win the division.
The champion team from NTU-Tigers is composed of Ysabel Bermejo, Via Veronica Trocio, Rannie Rose Princess Dedoroy, Crystal Pauline Reyes, Stephanie Alexandra Marie Arrieta and Ashley Alarcon. Dedoroy also took the best player award in her division. Joining the team and giving their support to the NTU-Tigers were former senior national team member Jose Emmanuel Enriquez and junior national team member Crystal Pauline Reyes, who both won medals in international competitions for the country.* (CMG/NDB)
