The Negros Volunteers for Change headed by its Chairperson, Millie Kilayko, spearheaded the blessing and inauguration of the newly-constructed two-classroom schoolbuilding funded by Senator Sergio Osmeña III at Barangay Haguimit Elementary School in La Carlota City last July 31.

Rev. Fr. Jacob E. Segorola, Parish Priest of St. Vincent Ferrer Parish in Brgy. La Granja administered the ceremony.

Angel "Nonong" Verdeflor, Provincial Executive Assistant representing Governor Alfredo G. Marañon Jr. in his message said "this schoolbuilding is a big help to our youth most especially to our schoolchildren. Governor Marañon’s Negros First Agenda said Education is his Priority Program for the greatest good of the greatest number. Likewise, he gave importance to the Food Security Program of the Negrosanons. He also thanked the Negros Volunteers for Change headed by Millie Kilayko for the whole-hearted support for the programs and projects of Negros Occidental.

In her message, SPM Karen Aguirre, chair, Committee on Education in behalf of Mayor Juliet Marie D. Ferrer said, "What we are doing today is for the interest of our schoolchildren’s education. The City Government of La Carlota City headed by Mayor Juliet Marie D. Ferrer who is very busy right now attending to the victims of typhoon Gener and collating all the damages and aid for the typhoon victims. She will convene the City Disaster Risk Reduction Council for a conference this morning and cannot make it on this inauguration, however, she extends her heartfelt thanks to the Negros Volunteers for Change and to Senator Sergio Osmeña III for a job well done in helping the constituents of La Carlota."

Millie Kilayko also stressed in her speech that their group is giving importance to Education, as charged by President Benigno Aquino III. Kilayko also recognized the help that Senator Sergio Osmeña III extended to the people of Negros Occidental in constructing the two-classroom building with comfort rooms. She reported that currently, 100 classroom buildings had been constructed in Negros Occidental already and a lot more are coming. "We hope that the District Supervisors, Principals, Teachers and parents will also give good quality education for their respective schoolchilren," Kilayko said.

Mr. Alejandro Ticao also extended heartfelt thanks to their

benefactors, Negros Volunteers for Change and Senator Sergio Osmeña. "This will encourage students to go to school everyday and learn more. We promise to take care of this schoolbuilding," Ticao stressed.

Barangay Kagawad Leo Reyes representing Barangay Captain Ephraim A. Quillas extended also his gratitude to all those responsible for the construction of the schoolbuilding.
