Sports: Montalbo Scores 51-point for JK vs. Orix; Atlantic Beats MRT in Fil-Sino
Former Palarong Pambansa secondary standout for Western Visayas Kirell Brahndon Montalbo was so dominant among his older counterpart as he sizzled with a tournament high 51-point to lead Johann Kendrick over Orix Metro, 88-71 even as Atlantic Auto Parts defeated MRT Gentech Corp., 90-77 to tie at the second spot in the standing of the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. 2nd Conference Inter-Color Basketball tournament at Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School Wednesday.
On Friday matches, Joshbianc Motors beat Campuestohan Highland Resort, 108-105 to remain as the only unbeaten, while Guanzon Dental Clinic joins the win column and surprisingly beat Fyr Fyter Mktg., 123-116.
Montalbo, who single-handedly carried his team in previous matches against every opponent, has already a total of 100 points in their last two games. He scored 23 points in the first quarter Wednesday to lead JK, 28-15 against Orix. But Orix’s Robbie Jalando-on had 13 points to post a deadlock at 40-all in the break.
In the resumption of game at the second half, JK pulled away to post a 20-point lead with Montalbo igniting with 28 points.
Ritchie Militante scored 13 points behind Montalbo. Orix had Jalando-on with 18, while Kenderson Hao and Edward Uy had 9 points apiece and Ardian Ong 8.
Jose Miguel Montinola scored 38 points for Guanzon Dental Clinic, followed by Adonis Rosales with 23, Peter Paul Ortaliz 17; Mark Velez and Chibon Uy delivered 16 each and Cesar Noble hit 13.
Julius Teruel had 38 points for Fyr Fyter, Arvin Gustilo added 32, Nico Lopingco 27 and Jolly Castillo drilled 13.
Father and son tandem, Richard and Joshua Co had a perfect free throw shooting percentage going for 6 of 6 in the dying minutes to close out a pesky Campuestohan Highland Resort.
Campuestohan engaged the undefeated Joshbianc in several lead changes from the start until the final quarter but Joshbianc took the driver’s seat, 100-97, for its fourth straight victory.
Arnold Laureño and Joshua Co finished with 25 points apiece, Bobby Yap had 19, Arvin Chua 15, while Rey Jara and Richard Co with 12 points each.
Yan Yan Dy had a game high 29 points for Campuestohan, Frank Madrid added 26, while Badong Eufre and Chingsan Su contributed 12 points each.* (CMGarde)
