Sun Cellular and Boston Finance defeated their respective opponents in close games to share No. 2 spot in the ongoing LNA7/PROBAC Basketball Invitational Tournament played at the West Negros University.

Boston Finance is eyeing another win tonight against Ink Cream in the main game at 8pm to catch up with the league-leading Toyota-Bacolod team that is also seeking to improve its 6-1 win-loss card facing TJ Construction (4-4) in the first game at 7pm.

Sun Cellular beat Watchmen Daily Journal (WDJ), 108-104 despite leading with 24 points in the first quarter, 39-15, while Boston defeated Fortuna, 99-97.

Patric Echarri and Omay Demonteverde combined with 17 points in the second quarter for Sun Cellular to cut the Watchmen Daily Journal (WDJ) lead for 17 points at the break, 40-57, out-scoring them 26-18 in the quarter.

Sun Cellular limited WDJ for 17 points in the third, while scoring 35 points to grab the lead by a hairline, 75-74. Dave Dokto had 17 points, while Toto Torre and Demonteverde had 11 and 7 points respectively for the Sun.

In the final period, Sun Cellular had a combine 33 points from its line up, while WDJ had 30 points for a close end game.

Peewee Demonteverde top scored with 22 points for Sun Cellular, Echarri added 17; Omay Demonteverde and Docto had 15 apiece, Torre with 13 and Fernandez with 12.

Opu-an anchored Watchmen with 26 points, Pril Gacho 19, Tan 16, Jun-Jun Alisbo 13, GM Gonzales 8 and Donald Quilantang 7.

Meanwhile, Jerald Abrot had 23 points, 20 of them scored in the third quarter to lead Boston’s sixth win against two losses in the tournament as RB Chua added 22 points; Yan Dy and Matt Delis connected 12 points apiece, Mark Quilantang with 8 and Jason Yap with 7 points.

Carlo Chu had 24 points, 17 in the final period to spearhead Fortuna’s late quarter run as Newyn Oñas delivered 16, Ryan Gamboa 12, Tee Espejo and Noel Peñas with 10 points each and Ian Teruel and Joery Dilag with 7 points apiece.* (CMGarde)
