Sports: DepEd Iloilo and Negros Occ. to Meet on July 18 for Negros Bids for 2013 Palaro
The Department of Education (DepEd) Iloilo superintendents are now assisting the host Negros Occidental counterparts in the preparation of the province’s bids to host the 2013 Palarong Pambansa at Panaad Park and Sports Stadium at Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
To solidify their position in helping Negros Occidental win the bidding, about 100 Western Visayas School superintendents will meet in Negros Occidental on July 18, 2012 at the Capitol Social Hall.
The Western Visayas School superintendents are helping identify the billeting centers and will coordinate other needed things in their meeting on Wednesday next week.
Earlier, Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo G. Marañon is bent on pushing the hosting of the annual sports conclave in the Department of Education grassroots sports development program.
With the new format or requirements of the province’s bidding to host Palarong Pambansa, Negros Occidental has the edge to win because of already different venues and an international sports stadium and grandstand at Panaad Park and Sports Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
Panaad Park and Sports Stadium has already played host to two Palarong Pambansa in 1998 and 2000 Centennial Palaro.
The province already hosted four Palarong Pambansa, two of them in 1974 and 1979 at Paglaum Sports Complex. Negros Occidental has an advantage of winning the bid over rival Cebu City, which remains to be the stumbling block of the province to get the nod of the Department of Education. Cebu City has hosted the Palarong Pambansa in 1994.
Negros Occidental already has different facilities that can cater to about 16 sports disciplines and billeting centers just a few minutes ride from the venue or just even a walking distance for 17 regional delegations throughout the country.
Last year, Department of Education Secretary, Bro. Armin Luistro assured Gov. Marañon of the 2013 hosting during a brief meeting.
Early last month, the WV Regional Department of Education headed by Regional Director Mildred Garay met with her subordinates to insure that the hosting of Negros Occidental of the 2013 Palarong Pambansa in Boracay Island Resort in Aklan province to prepare the requirements in a post-evaluation.
Garay said the bidding may take place sometime in August or September.
She met with Governor Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr., last week and came up with a decision to hold a meeting on July 18.
In 2012 Palarong Pambansa held in Lingayen, Pangasinan, Western Visayas collected a total of 452 points; 221.50 in elementary and 230.50 in secondary to place second behind National Capital Region in the overall championship based on point systems.
NCR amassed a total 733 points banking on both elementary and secondary divisions with complete participations on all seventeen sports disciplines. They got 318 points in elementary division, while garnering 415 points in the secondary division. They dominated the elementary boys athletics, elementary boys chess, elementary boys’ and girl’s swimming, elementary girls tennis, elementary boys volleyball, secondary girl’s archery, secondary girl’s athletics, secondary boys basketball, secondary boy’s chess, secondary boy’s football, secondary boys’ and girls’ volleyball, all divisions swimming and all division gymnastics.*
