University Games (UniGames, University of St. La Salle (USLS) and the main sponsor Sandugo assured a successful staging this year’s of the only collegiate sports competition for private and public tertiary schools in the country after signing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Friday at the university’s College covered Court.

Doroja, UniGames President Roger Banzuela, USLS President-Chancellor Raymundo Suplido, FSC; and USLS Director for External Affairs Rhoderick Samonte. Also present are USLS Sports Director Malot Lozada and USLS Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs Marie Therese Jochico.*

Dubbed as 17th Sandugo-UniGames 2012", University of St. La Salle will play host this year’s event on October 22 to 28, 2012 after assuring the renovation of its track oval and some venues for majority of the sixteen (16) sports events.

USLS actually is the home for UniGames where it started in 1996 as a brainchild of then USLS President Bro. Rolando Dizon.

But last year’s staging was held in Roxas City, Capiz with the main venue and host at Colegio De La Purisima Concepcion (CPC),

In the MOA, UniGames will provide technical and financial support. With its technical staff and accredited technical personnel in cooperation with the host will supervise and manage the conduct of the UniGames to ensure the efficient and orderly holding.

Above all, UniGames will provide funding assistance to USLS in the amount of P750, 000.00.

In return, USLS will be responsible to provide billeting center or quarter, preparation of venues, transportation, technical secretariat and media center and many others including the opening ceremony.

UniGames President Roger A. Banzuela said this will help the participants to lessen their expenditures as Bacolod is the center for all delegation accessible to transportation. Her also added rentals of venue would be minimized.

Representing USLS is Bro. Ray B. Suplido, FSC, while Sandugo was represented by its Executive Vice President Perry Doroja. The countdown also started Friday for UniGames until October 22.

It was noted that this year’s sports competition and hosting of USLS will jibe with the university’s Diamond Jubilee (60) year’s celebration.

Sandugo on the other hand, inked a six-year sponsorship with UniGames knowing its impact to collegiate sports competitions. Doroja said UniGames is one of the major sports they supported aside from Collegiate Athletic League.

"We are lucky to be part of UniGames main sports sponsor and hoping to continue supporting the group after the six-year sponsorship ends". He added, Sandugo is manufacturing first durable sandals and later turn to sports outfits and many others.

This year’s event of softball will be scrapped due to fewer participants and may opt to put up karatedo replacing softball.

The Technical Committee is also studying the inclusion of Mountain Run from Bacolod City to Mambukal Resort as part of Sandugo-UniGames sports tourism project supported by the provincial government of Negros Occidental.

More than 50 colleges and universities in the country are expected to participate as invitations have been readied by the Technical Committee.*
