Sports: PROBAC/LNA7 cagefest: Akasya Ends TJ Construction Winning Streak
Akasya Grill ended TJ Construction winning streak Wednesday night on a 96-78 victory in theongoing1st PROBAC/LNA7 Invitational Basketball Tournament played at the West Negros University gym.
Akasya came out strong in the first three quarters posting the biggest lead in the game at the end of third with 24 points, 77-53.
Janray Pepino hit 10 points in the opening period as Mark Velez added 6 to lead Akasya’s 20-18 run while Ramonito Gazan nailed 11 points to anchor TJ.
Akasya continued its offensive attack in the second quarter behind the balanced scoring from Matthew Yap with 7 points, and 6’7 center Mark Kong and JC Sobrevega with 6 points each. Mark Reyes and Ricky Gillera fronted TJ with 5 points apiece.
Akasya led the half, 41-36.
However, the third was a surprise when Akasya launched a huge 36-17 game.
Paolo Diaz fired 12 points, including a pair of triples, to lead Akasya’s sizzling offense as Japhet Cua connected 8 points while teammates Antiporda and Paolo Cuenca had 7 points each. Only Boboy Berbueda played a consistent game for TJ with 9 points.
It was only in the final quarter when TJ got its rhythm on a 25-19 run but wasn’t enough to take control as they eventually yielded to Akasya.
Diaz and Pepino scored 12 points each to anchor Akasya’s fifth win as Antiporda backed with 11, Kong 9, Sobrevega and Cua with 8, Cuenca with 7 and Velez with 6 points.
On the other hand, Gazan topscored TJ with 15 points as Bebueda shared 13, Chico Ranier with 11, Esto Garcia with 10 and Mitchel Ajejandro with 7 points.
Meanwhile, Watchmen scored its second win Wednesday after Angels Burger failed to play.*
