Local News: P35M Good Housekeeping Award to be Used in Markets, Roads Improvement
The P35 M grant to Bacolod City by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), having passed the Seal of Good Housekeeping, will be used in the repair of public markets and roads as required by DILG.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia said, DILG only grants to local governments that have passed the Seal of Good Housekeeping. He enumerated the use of said amount, as P1.5 million for the rehabilitation of Libertad Market, and the big part of the fund will be allocated for the repair of Magsaysay Avenue, Lacson Extension, Aguinaldo Street, and other road networks connected to a national road as required by the DILG. While about P8 million will be allocated for the repair of different markets.
Leonardia said the bulk of the P8 million will go to Libertad Market because it has bigger needs, while the Central Market has a new roof. The Burgos Market will also be given attention, he said.
Because what was required by the DILG are only road network connecting to national roads, the roads from Shopping that connects to Burgos Street, and the Doña Juliana and City Heights roads connecting to Libertad Extension are also qualified, Leonardia said.
He pointed out that Magsaysay Avenue and Rosario Streets are also connected to Araneta Street which is a national road.*
