Local News: Senate Oks Redistricting of 4 Areas Excluding Bacolod City
Redistricting of Bacolod City has not been approved yet. Thus said Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile answering the query of Bacolod Councilor Roberto Rojas over the phone yesterday.
Rojas said as per information of Senator Enrile, the bill apportioning Bacolod into two districts is still in the committee level of the Senate. It is still with the Committee on Local Governments chaired by Sen.Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
Rojas called Sen.Enrile yesterday to confirm a column in a national newspaper which said "Enrile has approved the creation of additional legislative districts for Quezon City, Aklan, Bacolod City, North Cotabato and Palawan which will bring the number of congressmen to 290."
But to his dismay.Enrile’s response over the phone was negative. Redistricting of Bacolod was endorsed in Congress by Bacolod Cong. Anthony Golez last year, upon endorsement of a resolution approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, to divide the city into two districts due to its size in population and area, as well as income of the city, which meet the qualifications to divide the place into two districts.*
