Local News: For Failure to Curb Illegal Gambling, Querol Relieves 4 Police Heads in Western Visayas
PRO 6 director Police Chief Superintendent Cipriano E Querol Jr. had once again reminded all Provincial/City Directors and Chiefs of Police on the illegal gambling policy embodied in PRO 6 IMPLAN to LOI 05-2012 "Revised PNP Anti-Illegal Gambling Special Operations Task Force" to pursue its thrust to make Western Visayas an illegal gambling- free region.
Implementing the 1-strike-policy of the Philippine National Police (PNP), and supporting the recent pronouncement of PNP Director General Nicanor Bartolome to reimpose the policy on police chiefs who would fail to act against any illegal gambling operation in their respective areas of responsibility, RD Querol has ordered the relief of 4 chiefs of police in some areas of Region 6.
They were PCI Noel Polines of Police Station 6, and PSI Jerick Filosopo of Police Station 8, all in Bacolod City; PSI Robert Mansueto of Moises Padilla Police Station; and PSI Allan Reloj of La Castellana Police Station, all in Negros Occidental.
Querol said, this shows that the chiefs of police in these areas were negligent of their duty to curb illegal gambling operations in their respective localities. This will serve as fair warning. However, any future operation of illegal gambling in their areas will be ground for their relief and filing of administrative charges against them.
"The policy clearly states that any Provincial/City Director and Chief of Police to include Chief, Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit 6 who will be found inefficient or wanting in their efforts to stop and eradicate illegal gambling operations in their respective jurisdiction shall be relieved from his post and be charged administratively, if evidence so warrants," said Querol.
Records show that Bacolod City tops the list on the number of positive operations/raids against illegal gambling activities in the region with a total of 102 followed by Negros Occidental with 39 and RSOG with 32, in which the 32 police operations/raids also took place in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental for the period of January-June 2012.
For the same period, there were already 358 individuals arrested with Php 112,640.95 worth of bet money confiscated with a total 125 cases already filed in court.
However, Querol said, despite these accomplishments, illegal gambling operations in their localities are still prevalent, Querol pointed out.
Querol likewise warned all PNP members to never protect nor tolerate any illegal gambling outfit in their areas in exchange for money and other considerations.
Likewise, he directed all unit commanders to continue their aggressive campaigns against any and all forms of illegal gambling operations in the region.*
