The First Bro. Gratian Murray Memorial Cup Inter-Color Basketball Tournament 2012 Opens with a big bang at the Oscar J. Hilado Civic Center, Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City last Sunday.

Bro. Pedro Victor "Dindo" Maralit-President and Principal of St. Joseph School-La Salle together with PBA Superstar- Rudy Distrito, Executive Assistant to the City Mayor- Butch Soliguen- Class ’71 Engr. Antonio Genovea-President of St. Joseph School-La Salle Alumni Assn Inc., Former Principal Mrs. Mildred Hiponia-SJS-LS Alumni Teacher Adviser, Rene Cuison- Sports Commissioner, Ging Amor-Class ’83, Virgilio Malan-Class’71, Ems Betita Class’86 and Jean Las Piñas spearheaded the Opening Ceremonies.

In his inspirational message, Bro. Dindo Maralit said," You do this sports basketball activities because you want to connect with each other, young and the old students of St. Joseph Scholl-La Salle. You do this because you want to loose weight. You do this because God give you the talents to share with others. I hope you do play with friendship and camaraderie."Let’s the game begin." Bro. Maralit pointed out.

Former Principal- Mrs Lourdes Hiponia, St. Joseph School-La Salle Alumni Teacher Adviser in her opening remarks said, " This another milestone and honor in the history of St. Joseph School-La Salle and if Bro. Gratian Murray, our Founding Father is alive today, he will be very happy and highly appreciated of what you’re doing for the good of the school. This is a way of strengthening and making a strong commitment of unity, camaderie and friendship among alumni of St. Joseph School-La Salle. Keep up the good work."

Engr. Antonio Genovea-President of St. Joseph School -La Salle Alumni Assn Inc. in his message said," It is your sincere commitment and dedication of each and everyone of you that make this sports activity comes into reality. Thank you for your whole-hearted support and cooperation and may this sports project becomes fruitful and success-ful."

Participants were Red Team of Tony Genovea-Class ’70, Ble Team of Rene Cuison-Class’71, Yellow Team of Monching Maquiling-Class ’70. Green Team of Danilo Cornel-Class ’71. First Game- Yellow Team won by two points in a hot contested game over Green Team with the score of 76 against 74. Casiano -2 points, Yncleno-3, Abrot-18, Corrien-te-15, Palermo-8, Nayo-25, Genbon-3 , Rosales-2 total points of 76 while green team throug the courtesy of Abaygar-4 points, Echarri-27, Soc-10, Orbita-12, Senining-6, Zimmer-man-2, Villarosa-12 total of 74 points. Second Game won by Red Team in a five points lead against Blue Team of 70 against 65 points. Red Team- Convite-15 points, Tonog-18, Baldevia-19, Biaco-8, Aguda-5 and Agsam-l a total of 70 points. Blue Team-Pineda-11, Gabito-19, Delfinado-7, Sola-5, Oquiana-4, Estrellanes-7, Gallano-4, Enbarquez-2, Tala-vera-7 points or a total of 65 points. Red Team led all the way but it tied up with with the yellow team at 60 points in the 3rd quarter and if not with good tactics and maneuvering of the coach and wise decision they could not have won the game.

Joemar Estrellanes- Batch 2012 led the opening prayer, Kris Robles on oath of sports-manship. Jose De los Reyes Marañon introduced the guest speakeer. Sports Commissioner- Rene Cuison oficially declared the Opening Ceremonies of the lst Bro. Gratian Murray Inter-Color Basketball Tournament 2012. Jean Las Piñas is the program host.*
