Local News: ‘8 More NPAs Surrender’
There are seven to eight members of the New People’s Army (NPA) who have returned to the fold of the law last week, the military said.
Col. Oscar Lactao, 303rd Infantry Brigade, said last Saturday that more NPA members from the northern and the southern Negros have surrendered to the Army, bringing the total number to 62 surrenderees.
Lactao said they will present the eight surrenderees to Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. early next month for livelihood and financial assistance.
Meanwhile, Lactao said the 303rd IB is marking its anniversary on
July 1, but the program will be held on June 30, a Saturday.
The celebration will start with Holy Mass in the morning, a wreath-laying ceremony, and awarding of outstanding military members and civilians.
This is a double celebration as the 303rdBrigade was recently awarded the Best Brigade in Western Visayas, he said.
Lactao said he is thankful for the support of provincial government officials headed by Gov. Marañon and Vice Gov. Genaro Alvarez, as well as the mayors, which helped them win the award.
The 303rd Bridage is vying for the national title, he added.*(DBDangcalan)
