This is the second time, in all of the controversial killings in Negros Occidental that the name of Vice Governor Genaro "Lim-ao" Alvarez is often linked. I don’t know the reason but his name cropped up based in the initial investigations. First Alvarez name was linked to the slaying of Ilog Municipal Councilor Antonio "Karem" Gequillana, Jr., on July 27, 2011 in front of East View Hotel in Bacolod City and recently with the ambush of Kabankalan RTC Judge Henry Arles at Barangay Manalad while on his way to Ilog town on April 24, 2012. In all these linkages, Alvarez always denied and blamed politics behind the smear campaign against him.

With these prevailing news linking him to the two killings, it will only tell if the family political clout still offsets these accusations, knowing them to be a force to reckon with in the political arena. But above all, this family also are lovers or sports enthusiasts, with the Vice governor himself a noted race enthusiast, including his sons and a grandson who is presently among the RP’s top riders.

But then, how can we tell if the alleged accusations are just a figment of the imagination by some people? If the concerned government agencies will give their findings that their name really are linked to these crimes? Nobody can tell if these accusations have an effect in their political ambition comes 2013 knowing that the families of the Montilla, Alvarez in the vice governor’s side and the Kho or Coloso on her wife’s side are strong families in southern Negros Occidental.

The controversy that comes from last June 9 WBO Welterweight championship fight between the Philippine’s Manny Pacquiao as champion and American Timothy Bradley, Jr., as challenger is now a world-wide issue of the so-called boxing robbery. Many boxing aficionados claim it was Pacquiao who won handily and not a close encounter with Bradley. But the two judges started it all that put boxing into a dilemma of losing fans’ trust in the competition. Everyone knows it was Pacquiao who won the match, but not the two judges. Confusion has followed and some even call it "lutong macao" or a handiwork of the mafia syndicate . Everyone seems being suspicious; from Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum, Pacquiao himself and the boxing organization, the World Boxing organization (WBO).

Some suspect Arum to have a hand on the result of the fight and his condemnation of the result is but a part of the gimmick. Calling to investigate the judges and the contract clause of a rematch on November 10 is all part of the gimmick, they say. WBO calling for an investigation of the judging that can’t be reversed anymore insofar as the outcome of the decision is another one which will make it hard to believe, butif they are doing their duty and are really concerned enough to take action whenever this kind of controversy erupts.

Pacquiao’s actuations of not minding the outcome of the decision when read, kept some also suspect he also had something to do with the fiasco. The Bradley gimmick of raising huge ads of their rematch on November 10, some suspect as one part of the drama authored by Arum.

In the recent review of WBO of the fight, it was seen that Pacquiao is really the winner. The HBO also awarded the fight to him. But why did this happen? Ah, maybe Arum has another thing in mind that in case of rematch, it will be as interesting in so far as the other previous fights of Pacquiao where Arum really GAINED BIG MONEY. Bradley is also handled by Arum.

However, due to pressure from the world clamoring on the controversial split decision, Arum was quick to announce that a quadrology between Mexican Juan Marquez and Pacquiao will take place on November 10 in either USA or Mexico. This left Bradley in an embarrassment situation as a rematch with Pacquiao will no longer happen. Bradley said, he will not return the belt as he won it in the ring, despite talking before the announcement of the decision that he had a hard time against Pacquiao and he really felt his powers. He was even surprised to hear he won the match. Unless, he returns the belt or keep the title vacant, he is left out or kept waiting when the rematch with Pacquiao takes place.*
