Local News: Mayor Ferrer Turns Over Hand-held Radios to La Carlota Brgys.

Almost 14 Barangays of La Carlota City availed of handheld radios distributed by Mayor Juliet Marie D. Ferrer in a simple turnover of equipment at the Office of the City Mayor yesterday.

The beneficiares Barangays were: Poblacion-1 of Punong Barangays Jose Luis A. Jalandoni, Poblacion-2- Erlinda B. Domingo, Poblacion-3- Antonio Custodio, Ara-al- ABC President SPM Francisco D. Oplas, Ayungon- Oliver A. Ignacio, Balabag- Joel E. Rumbines, Batuan- Leoni Mieh R. Salvador, Cubay- Noel C. Vargas, Haguimit- Ephraim A. Quillas, La Granja- Nanette P. Escarsa, Nagasi- Joel S. Senares, R.S.B.- Elmar O. Aries, San Miguel- Benson F. Pillar and Yubo-Rembert A. Calimutan.

Mayor Ferrer also turnover handheld radios to City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office Head- Roberto Aispuro Jr., Bureau of Fire Protection- FInsp. Rodel P. Legaspi, General Services Office Head-Engr. Salvador Artieda with base control equipments, Civil Security Unit Office Head- Roberto Alvañez, Guintubdan Pavillion and Visitors Center.

The communication equipments-handheld radios will be used to help all 14 barangays and officials to communicate will all sectors in the government in time of disasters, calamities and other emergencies. The equipments also will enable the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council to be updated in obtaining situation when disaster occurs as what had happened when earthquakes strike Negros Island where all communications even cellphones bugged down, there were no communications at all."This how important these communication equipments is all about," Mayor Ferrer said.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council is an agency of the government who are responsible for ensuring the protection and welfare of the people during disaster or emergencies. It is created under the Office of the Mayor. They are also responsible for administration, training, research, planning , operations and warnings. It approves, monitors, evaluates, reviews, tests, develops plans consistent with other national and local planning program. Ensure the integration of Disaster Risk Reduction and climate change adaptation into local development plans, programs and budgets as a strategy in sustainable development and poverty reduction. Recommend the implementation of force or pre-emptive evacuation of local residents, if necessary.

CDRRMC functions include operate a multi-hazard early warning system, linked to disaster risk reduction to provide accurate and timely advice to national or local emergency response organizations and to the general public, through diverse mass media, particularly radio, landline communication and technologies for communication. Conduct continuous disaster monitoring and mobilize instrumentalities and entities of the City Government, CSO’s, private groups and organize volunteers to utilize their facilities and resources for the protection and preservation of lives and properties during emergencies in accordance with existing policies and procedures. Disseminate information and raise public awareness about hazards, vulnerabilities and risk their nature effects, early warning signs and counter measures. Promote and raise public awareness of and in compliance with Republic Act No 10121 among others.*

Members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) in the Locale of Tangub and other locales in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental, are inviting the public to their ‘Pamamahayag’, during which they will present the teachings and doctrines of the INC.
