Local News: Another Owner Violates National Building Code

A pension house constructed right next to Aguila Glass building has also been built without moving back three meters in a setback the national law provides. If not stopped, the pension house will soon operate as have the Aguila Glass building.

Highly-reliable sources said these are blatant and flagrant defiance of the national provision of the building code without city government officials, particularly the majority Grupo Progreso, doing anything about it. Mrs. Stella Cadagat, the owner of a building right next to Aguila, has campaigned with building owners along her block to observe the national law, but has been thoroughly dismayed because of the Aguila Glass violations.

The owner and contractor of Aguila Glass has thumbed their noses at authorities in a precedent so unafraid of city government authorities, one cannot blame other building owners if they will do the same.

"Right on our block, within Libertad-Lacson and Lizares-Lacson, the building owners and contractors have flaunted their violation of the National Building Code, defying the DPWH, the Office of the Building Official (OBO) and the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO)," Mrs. Stella Cadagat said.

It shows that laws having been violated by even city government officials have no teeth, while it is an example of those in government inutile in implementing it because they have been recipients of favor from the building owners, she said.

Eventually, sources said, the most blamable official will be the city mayor who has command responsibility above all.*
