A three-day referees clinic through Anthony Carlo Agustin, provincial director of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, will be held June 29, 30 & July 1, 2012 at the West Negros University gym in Bacolod City.

The seminar is in line with the SBP objective to develop a standard program to uplift the level of competitiveness in officiating. It will likewise improve the competency of those who are already in the trade and for SBP to discover fresh talents who will cover the most popular sport in the country.

Registration fee of P850 for participants will cover lunch, snacks and certificate of completion. Interested parties may inquire from WNU Sports Office at 034-4344561 local 148 or 034-7077077.

Proposed program of activities, according to Felipe Bat-og, provincial referees’ coordinator of SBP Negros Occidental, is registration at 8 a.m., introduction to the program at 9:30 and lecture from 10 to 12 noon in opening day. Lecture continues from 1 to 5 p.m. and from 8 to 12 noon the next day.

The whole afternoon of June 30 and the whole morning of July 1 will consist of practical methods.

Robert Uy of Toyota heads the SBP regional office whose other plan is to produce local referees for international competition or follow the footsteps of Tronjay Aldaba of UNO-R, Patrick Canizares of LCC and Wilbert Culanag of WNU. The trio have experienced officiating in the Philippine Basketball Association for years before retiring.* (HGDoble)
