University Games President Roger A. Banzuela and Sandugo Executive Vice President Perry Doroja will finalize the Memorandum of Agreement today for the hosting of this year’s 17th UniGames dubbed as Sandugo-UniGames 2012 slated on October 22 to 28, 2012 at University of St. La Salle.

Banzuela said, Doroja is arriving today but the signing will take place on July 6, 2012 as well as the start of countdown for the 2012 Sandugo UniGames.

Last year, Roxas City, Capiz hosted the event after USLS begged off as Bro. Ray B. Suplido, FSC, USLS President has early commitments for Centennial and other previous scheduled activities and numerous construction and renovation projects of the facilities going on, including the resurfacing of the track oval for future use in this year’s UniGames. This year’s Sandugo-UniGames will jive with the University Diamond Jubilee (60 years) celebration.

USLS is the home of UniGames founded by the late Bro. Rolando Dizon, FSC, since 1996. The last time it was held in USLS was 2007.

More than 50 colleges and universities in the country are expected to participate as invitations have been readied by the Technical Committee.

Sixteen sports disciplines are going to be contested, with the scrapping of softball event due to fewer participants but the inclusion of karatedo to replace softball. The Technical Committee is also studying the inclusion of Mountain Run from Bacolod City to Mambukal Resort as part of Sandugo-UniGames sports tourism project supported by the provincial government of Negros Occidental.

USLS Lady Stringers reclaimed the women’s volleyball title when the competition was held in Roxas City, Capiz. West Negros University (WNU) Mustangs settled for silver in men’s basketball won by Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) , while University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) football team lost to De La Salle University for the title.

Far Eastern University (FEU) ruled the men and women’s athletics, men’s volleyball, women’s football, and women’s chess, while University of the East (UE) dominated the men and women’s badminton.

DLSU also topped women’s lawn tennis while placing second in men’s side. San Beda took the gold in men and women’s swimming and men’s table tennis, while College of St. Benilde (CSB) was unbeatable in both divisions in taekwondo.

Rizal Technological University (RTU) ruled sepak takraw and women’s softball, while National University (NU) was ruled the men’s lawn tennis.

UniGames was acknowledged by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) as the only collegiate sports competition participated by both public and private colleges and universities.*
