Sports: Sharp-BUS Group Invt’l Opens on June 17

Most breadwinners will celebrate Father’s Day with their families in beaches, resorts and malls. Some, however, will troop to West Negros University gym as the Sharp-Basketball Unified Sports Group Invitational Tournament reels off at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 17.

Condura, Syntax, and Panasonic will be joined in by Homesite Basketball Organization, BACIWA and San Dionisio Athletic Club for a single round robin elimination round. The top four teams move to a crossover semifinal with numbers 1 and 2 having a twice to beat advantage.

The losers play for third and the winners dispute the championship for the title and cash award.

Tournament commissioner Rogelio "Bing" Soyao expect a balance competition as BUS Group drafted its members 40-years old and above.

Team manager Jorge delos Reyes and skipper Vic Duenas will rely on Bandoy Aliermo, Bernie Chan, Berto Celis, Felipe Tumamot and Digol Benedicto for Condura. Syntax, managed by Siao Hua Ng and captained by Edgar Basco, will be in the thick of the fight with Rex Bayer, Arnel Tornilla, Dagol Flores and Toto Plagata in its roster.

Not to be outdone, Panasonic will be bannered by Hermi Derwill, Wendell Fuentebella, Tanker Habaradas, Boy Macayan, and Rey de Guzman. TM Errol Dreyfus and team captain Biboy Java hope the TV Makers to figure in the next round.

HBO will be spearheaded by Buddy Ferrer, BACIWA by Sammy Penado, Jonathan Dicen, Gino Amantillo and Bert Quebrar while San Dionisio AC will not be taken lightly as what happened last year.* (HGDoble)
