Events: Sagay City Holds ‘Adlaw sa Suba 2012’ Celebration at the Himoga-an Rivers
The City Government of Sagay in partnership with the Sinigayan Foundation Inc., in connection with the celebation of its 16th Charter Day Anniversary, held its "Adlaw Sa Suba 2012" at the Himoga-an River, Barangay Fabrica-Paraiso Area yester-day, June 8. It was a day dedicated to raising aware-ness in protecting the highly-regarded Himoga-an River with its slogan: "I love Himoga-an River," Sagay City Nature’s Paradise.
DILG personnel lead by Nove Mejica, Rojoely Azucena of Lopez Sugar Corporation, Youth Yes O Representative, DepEd’s Nicanor Alparito, PIO and Tourism Officer Helen Cutillar and Jenalyn Palacios personnel and staff, Girls and Boys Scout, city government employees plant trees and clean up rivers at the river banks of Himoga-an in Adlaw sa Suba at the 16th Charter Day celebration of Sagay City yesterday.*(Jun de los Reyes/NDB photo)
Spearheading the cele-bration are Mayor Leo Rafael M. Cueva, SPM Matthew Victor Gamboa, chair on Tourism, Punong Barangays Merle Demavibas- Fabrica, John Bersolto- Paraiso, Eufemio Doronila-Himoga-an Baybay, Felisa De La Cruz- Old Sagay and city officials, among others.
Mayor Cueva in his message said, "We are all stakeholders of Himoga-an River. We know its importance and usefulness and what it was before. This is the passage of trans-portation to other countries and to the world like (ILCO) Insular Lumber and sugar traders with big ships coming here. We have plans to develop and make this river beautiful that everybody will enjoy. This is a perfect venue for family bonding and recreation. With your full support and cooperation, this will make our dreams come true. I am reminding you to take good care of Himoga-an River and its environs for the benefit of our next gene-ration as a source of food and livelihood. Let’s work together to have a progressive and environ-ment-friendly city," Mayor Cueva urged.
SPM Gamboa, chair on Tourism pointed out the usefulness and importance of the Himoga-an River which is often forgotten. ‘Adlaw sa Suba’ won the National Award as ‘Best in Tourism Practices in the Philippines’ last year. Your support for Mayor Cueva’s plans and projects will make everybody happy and more activities will come this year."
Punong Barangays Merle Demavibas, Eufemio Doro-nila, John Bersolto, Felisa De La Cruz, Rojoelyn Azucena and SK Federation President Armalyn Cangue delivered their messages of commitment for the protection and care of Himoga-an River.
‘Adlaw sa Suba’ actitivies started with Pamunit sa Suba, River Clean Up, Tree Planting, Palumba sa Suba Race Relay Challenge Carabao Race, Paddle Boat Race, Running and Mini Race. Combo Race -Male and Female 18 years old and above, Butongay, Double All-Men. Special Prizes were given to the Best in Flag, Lin-ay sang Suba, Best Boat Design, etc. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners of the contest.
MOA signing and release of tilapia fingerlings were spearheaded by Mayor Cueva and the City Agriculture Office.*
