Sports: Cong. Doc Tony Lauds Nietes Victory; Wishes good luck to Rep. Pacman
Congressman Anthony Rolando "Doc Tony" T. Golez, Jr., Representative for the Lone District of Bacolod City filed House Resolution No. 2481 entitled "A Resolution congratulating and commending Filipino boxer Donnie Nietes for defending his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Light Flyweight Title in a match held at the Resorts World Hotel, Pasay City last June 2, 2012" on June 5, 2012.
In said Resolution, Cong. Doc Tony cited the fact that Donnie "Ahas" Nietes’ recent defense of the WBO Light Flyweight Title against Felipe Salguero of Toluca, Mexico, was another source of great pride for Filipinos. The House of Representatives has traditionally paid tribute to achievements of Filipino athletes who have won in international competitions.
"I am truly proud of our Filipino boxers: Nietes, Viloria, Donaire and Cong. Manny Pacquiao. They are leading the way towards sports greatness for the Philippines; their exploits in boxing bring glory and pride to the Philippines. And today, I have nothing but best wishes and prayers for my colleague, Saranggani Representative Manny Pacquaio, in his fight against the undefeated Timothy Bradley on June 10, 2012. I hope he performs well and show the world that he is the greatest boxer who ever lived," related Cong. Doc Tony.
The victory of Donnie Nietes was made in front of Filipinos at the Resorts World in Pasay City. He initially won the WBO Light Flyweight Title on October 8, 2011 when he defeated Mexico’s Ramon Garcia Hilares.*
